The problem with all these shelves is dust. If you are not using these items on a daily basis they collect dust and you need to wash before using. I personally like cabinets instead of these shelves. Maybe a short shelf on the side by the window.

Could be a "combo" in a studio apartment. I had something similar to that when I lived in Hollywood.

I disagree about the dust, I have some open shelves for wine glasses and even after a month there is not significant dust. If it is something that I haven't used in awhile, I just wipe with a clean cloth and use it.
I can't imagine washing something after being out for just a day or two. It looks like from these pictures even for a single person these dishes would probably be used every week.

@Katcat1 Reminds me of a "bar"....prefer cabinets in a home kitchen for aesthetics and also more practical.

Yup, open shelving is a HUGE dust collector!! Everyone has dust, whether you want to admit it or not. I'm not about to wash everyhting every time I go to use it. I like the look of open shelving but not at all practical!

I like the stools and the pendent lights.
I do love an island setting. But dark and modern is not my vibe.
I like white and more cottage style.
Someone once posted Sandra Bullock's beach house...I LOVED it...that was my kind of vibe...all white and light colored wood, high ceilings, airy.

It's too dark for my taste. The only things I like are the windows, floor & pendant lights - everything else NOPE. Thanks for sharing.

@Katcat1 I like the idea of saving lots of money by having shelves and not cabinets. You never have to worry about the up-keep and updating of cabinets that way. They are so expensive to buy and maintain and I think I would rather use that money for something else in the kitchen. I like the look of the shelves and dusting them would be a minor thing to me as long as they weren't piled sky high with dishes. With that said, I would have the shelves a lighter color so they wouldn't show the dust!!
This looks like a kitchen to me.

I like the look of it a lot, but prefer a comfy/cozy kitchen that comes to mind for many of us that would think of a kitchen in Grandma's house.

This kitchen looks nice, but it's too dark for me and I wouldn't want my dishes exposed to splashes from the sink, cooking, etc.
