Do you have an elf on a shelf?

I never had one, but it is a cute tradition kids seem to enjoy. Do you have an elf on a shelf in your home at Christmas?

No; my daughters are over 30, not married, no grandchildren, and there are no small children in our extended family.

Both of my daughters have one.  One daughter has 3 children, the other has 5 children.  Even with the one's who know the Santa secret love the Elf.  He adds to the magic of Christmas.

I had never heard of this until my kid was too old to make it fun at our house. Never heard of it when I was a child.

When exactly was this started?

@Mominohio, According to Wikipedia, it's based on a 2005 book about elves watching children's behavior for Santa.

Cute answer, Mama Mia!

I miss my own sweet kitty cat.  I had him for 9 years, but exactly two years ago today, he was killed by two vicious dogs from the next street who had gotten loose.  It wasn't the first time, either, they'd escaped.

That day, a meter reader had left the gate open to our backyard, and somehow our sweet kitty, who had gotten along with every animal, even skunks, until then, was brutally murdered.  I wasn't home at the time, but a neighbor saw the dogs in our yard.  The dogs also killed a possum that I fed regularly and who lived under our front porch.  I still cry to think about it.   Our kitty was so sweet and peaceful, content to just lay in our yard in the sun.  He had a neurological disorder, so he'd never go far.  His grave is in our backyard and I have placed a pretty golden mum there in his memory .

I don't have one.  I'm not sure if I've actually seen one in person.

If I remember correctly, this was started and is owned by Christa Pitts' family. She was a QVC host.

It came along after my children were grown, but I did get one for little grand neices a few years ago, and they love it.

Getting another this year for my new Great Grandson.  He's still a bit young, but I know he'll love it later on.

@Constance2

This is such a sad and tragic story, and my heart breaks for you.

Loosing a pet is so very heartbreaking under any circumstance, and this is just beyond imaginable. I am so sorry that you and your beloved kitty had to endure this.
