15 years old for a portable generator is OLD! Even if you didn't get much use out of it.
I have a Generac, too but I live in the boonies of Northern MI. It's peace of mind, like having an insurance policy. I don't give it a second thought.

I don't have one, and we were without power for three days in late June when a powerful wind / thunder storm went through the area, taking down a lot of trees and power lines. I lost some things in the fridge and freezer, but was able to save some with ice in a large cooler. It was also inconvenient not to have internet. But I did have a battery-operated radio so was able to stay somewhat connected.

I just have to add, the part came, the generator is back on line to run. ![]()

We have a small generator that is getting up there in years. It is enough to run the essentials. However, as it has gotten older, it has become much less efficient.
We were considering replacing it with something larger, but have decided against it. To me, the only option would be to get a larger generator that is connected to the house and comes on automatically. And, we decided it's not worth the cost.
We used to lose power more frequently. But, they put our neighborhood on a new larger grid, and we don't have much of a problem anymore.
In the event of an outage, we've just figured that it would be cheaper to go to a hotel for a few nights, and toss the food in the refrigerator. We no longer have any furbabies, so I don't have to worry about them being alone in the house.
In the event of some unforeseen crisis, we do have a wood stove insert, and a propane grill. We have canned goods and bottled water. And, the old generator is more enough to keep our freezer running and a few lights on. But, I don't think you can ever be fully prepared for something like that.

Glad to hear this!
I know some people plain cannot afford to buy a generator, and that is understandable. Some wouldn't be able to operate one or have a place to put it, and that is understandable as well. It would be great if everyone could have the standby kind that just comes up automatically.
But I know that as long as we are able, we won't be without one. It makes for a nice peace of mind, along with our others preperations for an emergency situation.
Glad yours was easily fixed and you have it if needed.
