Do you find air purifiers effective?

I've wanted to try a room air purifier due to bad allergies. Hsn has some great prices, but I'm wondering if they're really effective, have you had success with one?

Re: Do you find air purifiers effective?

We bought our mental challenges son a ferret a few years ago. Need I say more. I bought the Oreck flat style the Q had as a TSV a couple years ago, even on low you would never know we had a pet. Then they said it would work for allergies also. If it works for our issue, I'm pretty sure it would work for yours. If not you have 30 days to return it.

Yes....I swear by these purifiers. I am allergic to almost everything. I have the large units in the main areas of our home. I prefer the models with the timer and the permanment filter with the hepa.  They work for me.

I'm curious to know if they help to keep the dust down so I wouldn't have to dust so often or is there no significant improvement for this issue with an air purifier?

They can do wonders for allergies, but do your research to find the best one.  Consumer Reports is a good place to start.  I invested in a large Honeywell many years ago when my grandma was on home hospice care.  It was around $300.  She had several cats (I'm extremely allergic) and this purifier allowed me to spend precious time with her without my allergies being a problem.

I bought two with permanent hepa filters, wow what a difference! They have really helped with seasonal allergies.

Absolutely!

I have 2 of the Oreck ones that were on the Q not too long ago. They work great but are a bit loud when on Med or High. But overall I live with it because you would NEVER know I have both a cat and a dog in my house.

There is no smell of the animals and it gets rid of all the little partiulates in the air you often see flying around like dust and such.

We have just moved from a condo to a 3-level TH and I will probably buy another one when I have the money because they really do work great.

I find it's worth the cost of replacement filters.
