Do you Tat?

I have been TRYING to teach myself how to Tat and just can't seem to get the stitches onto the shuttle thread. Does anyone here tat and how did you learn? I have several books, a DVD and still cannot master it. I don't know anyone who tats so have no one to show me what I am doing wrong even though I study the books and do what I think it says, I just can't get the stitches to work. Anyone?????
