Re: Displaying Plates in a Dining Room

[ Edited ]

@dsw503

Plates can easily stand in place on a glass shelf or wooden shelf  that has grooves carved into the shelf surface, specifically designed for displaying plates or artwork.

  I've had two display cabinets with glass shelves made like this.  The grooves work well to hold up plates as long as the plates don't have too much of an upward curved rim, or if framed art doesn't have a thick frame.

I really like it.  Fresh, yet has a warm and inviting feel, too.  It seems to bring the outdoors in.....through that window.

I don't care for this.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I like the look but wouldn't want to live with it.

Re: Displaying Plates in a Dining Room

I would owe all the solid color plates in the display, just too much green, the white borders add interest.  And, add a couple more ldecorative pieces such as the owl for added interest, about that size too, nothing small like those other two  pieces are.

I do like the shade with the drapes - let’s light in while adding interest. And, the rug - neutral and adding more texture.

Now, not really sure how they thought that light added anything. I am seeing something more in the lines of a whitewashed wood or even a simple large metal open orb.

The stripes on the wall are neutral and add interest. But, I would of kept the back of that  display area solid white.

I wouldn't want to have to dust all that every week. It looks nice but just isn't practical.

Re: Displaying Plates in a Dining Room

The room is pretty but to me the plates on the shelves make it look like the 1990s or something from an earlier time when that look was very popular.  I'd rather see non-glass shelving with stacks of plates, bowls and some cookbooks, cookware, etc. in an interesting and more utilitarian display.

Not my style. It does work in this room, though.
