Re: Dining Room Tablecloth - Yes or No

When we had a separate kitchen & dining room, we ate on placemats at a pine table in our kitchen. Our formal dining room was only used for holiday entertaining. When not in use I had a runner, centerpiece, and candles on it. When company came for a meal at Christmas, the felt pads and tablecloth were put on the table.

When we remodeled our kitchen & dining room we knocked out the wall between the 2 rooms. We decided to get rid of the eat in kitchen table & use the dining table daily. Since that time, the table is covered all the time with the protective felt pads and a tablecloth. I switch out the tablecloth for seasons & holidays.

I would love to use placemats directly on the wood and skip the pads & tablecloths, but I'm afraid the surface would get damaged from daily use. I miss seeing the beauty of the cherry wood when it's covered all the time. Something to think about.
