I was reading a home magazine and in it it says that plum/purple is a designers favorite for a front door color. The color they have shown in the magazine was called Valspar Twlight Purple 4010-2. The color is really pretty in the magazine so I got a sample and it doesn't even look like the color in the magazine it looks navy blue!!
The second color was mustard or pale yellow and the third was Brick red (this is the color I have now).
I guess I will keep my Brick red. I was thinking of changing the color but I just changed my mind.

It sounds very pretty.

I just painted mine sage green. It looked darker on paint chip. Choose a light color, it was black, because the afternoon sun hits the door and heats it up.

I like the more unusual door colors I've seen. And the deep purple reminds me of a beach community house, where the house colors are perhaps lighter (maybe a grey), and the door is a punch of color.

I read in a magazine to not paint the front door a dark color. Burglars love dark colors because with their dark clothing a person on the street going by can't spot them easily when they break in.

That's interesting I never thought of that but it does make sense. Thanks for posting!

I am all for a pop of color for the front door. However, I think the one thing people don't consider when choosing a door color, is the color scheme of the home's main body color. Whether that is stacked stone, stucco, brick, siding whatever. You have to coordinate the colors and make sure they go together. Because nothing looks worse than having a color on the front door that just doesn't complement the rest of the home color on the outside. It just looks bad.
I think a deep purple or dark navy door would look fantatic, with a beige or stone colored home. Now if the home is green or some other color, that same purple or dark navy may not look so good.
It's always best to take color chips to a paint store and let them help you. They can guide you within a color scheme, to get the look you want, and still have it coordinate with your other home colors.

Where we live the builder painted all the doors either burgundy if you had a light taupe house color, dark green if you had a pale yellow house color or dark purple if you had a grey house color. Ours is green. We are not able to vary from that color (HOA) so we will probably always have a pale yellow house with a dark green door. All the homes are trimmed in a oyster white color.
