I agree! I live in Florida in a house that embraces the tropical cottage decorating style. Since this has always been my favorite style of decorating, I have enjoyed so much decorating this house. There are a lot of windows, so I've installed white plantation shutters on most of them, with sheer, lacy valances. No heavy curtains or draperies here!
The dining room walls are a deep turquoise, and my dining room furniture is farmhouse style golden oak. A rooster theme prevails in the dining area, kitchen, and breakfast nook.
My kitchen has white appliances (always my choice since the color never goes out of style & it's so easy to decorate around). The cabinets are while, with glass windows. The walls are painted a soft, butter yellow. I use red, while & blue as accent colors.. I even have a yellow Keurig coffee brewer! And again, a rooster theme. The breakfast nook has 3 bay windows looking to the back woods, and a French door leading to the back screened in porch.
We have used that casual, coastal theme through out the house (4 bedrooms, 3 full baths) and really do enjoy it and find that style very relaxing. And apparently so do our guests, who always comment on the homey, relaxed atmosphere. We love it!
P..S. Just bought a new living room couch & matching chair.. I decided to step out of the box and go with a pattern. We found a beautiful tropical pattern, with sage, gold, and sand colors throughout that is simply beautiful. Not loud, but very unusual. We are so glad we bought it, even if the set was a bit more than we wanted to pay. But we are retired and can finally buy what we want. Also, we just installed a stained glass ceiling fan in that room with the very same colors as the couch. It all looks so beautiful. Can you tell we love our house?
Tell me about your house and how it is decorated.

I live in Michigan but am an avid Summer lover! I decided to decorate my home in a coastal look. It's bright and cheery. I love turquoise, yellow, peach, lilac colors! It's a real challenge trying to find pieces to fit my theme living where I do but I've done it! Even though I hear wallpaper is out, I love it! My MI home is like walking into a Hawaiian tropic cottage on the ocean! Makes me happy.

I agree. I like reading about and/or seeing glimpses of other posters' decorating, and if their style differs greatly from mine, even better. I like seeing how others style things, and I usually pick up an idea or two.

I love wallpaper as well...and I don't care if 'they' say it is out. I have several rooms with paper and it is lovely and appropriate in each room. It really adds another dimension. The paper in the spare bedroom has a pattern with 'sand' in it, it was costly but beautiful!

I have been seeing them use wallpaper on HGTV lately.I think it just depends on the paper you choose. Every wall in my house is painted beige and i think a nice paper in one or two rooms would compliment it well. i love having all the same color but some accents would break it up a bit.
