Re: Decorating styles are different for all of us

I live in a large home in central Florida. We built it in 2007 and got to pick one color for the entire house. I have since painted all the bedrooms. But the open dining room, family room, and kitchen are still beige and I hate it. The actual color name is "latte" and it find it very depressing. I have beautiful wood kitchen cabinets that get lost in all the beige walls. The tile is a very light textured beige and I like that so I am good there. Have no idea what to paint the beige walls. The ceilings are high and there is some architectural structure. I think I need to hire a decorator for some ideas.

Re: Decorating styles are different for all of us

I have very distinct tastes about my own home decor, and see many styles I could never live with on a daily basis. BUT I do love to see and visit people who's decor differs from mine. I enjoy seeing how they put it together, I enjoy experiencing color schemes that I'd never choose, and I often get ideas from decor that I thought I'd never consider, just by seeing the twist someone else has put on a particular style. For example, I'd never do a tropical or beach type decor, but I love to see what others do with it, and some of the things I've seen are very beautiful. I like that I'm able to appreciate what I wouldn't necessarily want to live with.

Have you spent much time looking through magazines and online? If not you could start there and then join Pinterest.

I would not rush out and consult a decorator. You can go to a color wheel and see which colors you like; go to a good hardware store and look at good paints. They ususally have displays with colors that go well together. Whatever, you probably want something that will look well with the colors in your furnishings. What is your favorite color or group of colors? If you don't have one, look in your closet as that might guide you to your favorites.

My home is a cross between current country and french country. Tans, black, yellow, burgundy and pops of red. Red Oak, black painted a dark cherry furniture. Roosters, Longaberger baskets, lots of metal accents and candle holders with battery operated candles And of course lots of clocks and faux greenery! Every room is different put compatible.

Re: Decorating styles are different for all of us

Our house is very traditional. As a matter of fact, my husband and I live in the house that I grew up in. Our sunroom is painted a soft green color and so is the living room which adjoins it. Our kitchen, master bedroom, bathroom are all in shades of blue. Office and laundry room are neutral colors. Most of the furniture is golden oak.

All of my furniture and its layout has to make practical sense to me. If it's just a decorative piece, it doesn't belong.
