I'd appreciate some opinions. I'd like to get one of the lanterns, in black, to go on our hearth, opposite the fireplace tools. I've attached a picture of our fireplace. Would you go with the 16 or 19 inch? The 24 is too big for me. I want it to look good but not be too overwhelming, like well....hello there. There's a lantern!  image.jpg

@gidgetgh, How pretty!   I can't really advise because I just go by what looks right to me around here.  I'm sure experts would laugh and laugh.  Cat LOL

What I would probably do in your case is measure the height of the fireplace tools, then decide if I want the lantern to be shorter, the same as, or taller than the tools.  Mine are 28" so even the largest TSV would be shorter than my fireplace tools.  I would probably measure the height of the iron too, if it is going to be displayed along with the lantern, because I'm weird that way!  Maybe if you want the stair step look, choose a height somewhere nicely between the two?  Just an idea.

FYI--The TSV lanterns' measurements are including the metal ring, so you would probably need to deduct and inch or two from the stated measurement to get a more accurate picture of their height.

Hysterical...!!!  And I do feel the love...I hope I am still hugging you after tomorrow!

@BornToShop  I would be VERY surprised if you were not 120% pleased that you got both of them. I don't know if you already have a Luminara lantern or not...do you have the Churchill lantern? If not, it's top notch quality and I believe that these will be too  Smiley Happy

I have the churchill in the black & thanks to SHOPR who recently discovered it in cream at BBB, I have that one too.  I didn't like the price but used a coupon which helped.  The cream is best for me since I will use them in my coastal decor & my womancave.  I say the 24" is too much lantern, but knowing me, I will rationalize tomorrow on why I think I need it.  Bring on the group hug, lol!

Are you sure 24" is too much lantern for you, @BornToShop? LOL

What a beautiful fireplace!  I would get the 19 & 24" ones as the size of your fireplace would need a larger statement IMO.  How much fun you must have decorating l!

@gidgetgh  ITA with BornToShop...19" AND 24" if you want them down by the floor/on the stone!!! What a wonderful statement that would make!!! To me, the 16" is more for being a table top, mantal top, etc.

If you still want the 2 smaller sizes, I would put them on the mantel next to each other .Smiley Happy

My first advice would be to get rid of that fireplace. I think it needs a new home, and I've got just the place for it. I'd be happy to help out a fellow home decor lover and take it off your hands for you!

Seriously, it is stunning!

I'd probably go with the two smaller lanterns, grouped together if there is room. If one it must be, try to make it the right size to not look odd with the tools, like too big and over shadowing their size.

Thanks everyone for your opinions on lantern size for my fireplace. I'm still undecided even doing it at all, but I appreciate the input.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Decorating ideas for the new Luminara Lantern...

I am so excited that a 25" is on offer.  I have the TSV lanterns from a few years ago and they are too short so I used stacked books to raise them to the height I wanted.  I'll replace my existing lanterns with the new, taller ones and move the shorter ones elsewhere.

LOL I guess you could say I'm paying it forward.  @PeterDM posted something over CIJ that caused me to have tears streaming down my face with laughter.  Now I will think Kirky every time I see my Kirky lantern.  That is one creepy figurine you have.  I'm afraid it would keep me up at night!

I asked Susan Matthews on her FB page and she said the measurements are for the lantern body only and does not include the hook.
