Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

@gidgetgh   So glad to hear that you are feeling better.  Hard when we aren't feeling great.  I figured the ornaments would go.  Sounds like you have a great consignment store.  I'm sure your items are so good.  She gets your items posted and gets great responses.  I've donated so much, and still more to go.  Just glad someone will really enjoy the ornaments.

@rnmom - me too. I didn't want them anymore as I don't put up a tree and as I mentioned before I am not overly emotionally attached to them.  But I did/do want to make sure that I didn't give them to Goodwill where they would get broken. I feel responsibility to try my best with them.  I do like them. I just want to move them on.

Decluttering isn't always easy.  I've mentioned a lot here that I'm not overly attached emotionally to many physical things. But that doesn't mean I don't care for them at all. It makes it harder I think with some things of possible significance.  Again, I don't have children and no way would my sister's children want these.  I like keeping a really lean house possession wise for me and so that my sister, or her children, when they clean out my house one day when I'm gone, won't be overwhelmed with what to do with some items. Furniture and stuff is easy. Some stuff, even for me who declutters most things easily,  requires more thought, some angst and wistfulness for times that don't exist anymore and the need for some things is gone.

I love this post that we keep going. Great support is found here as we all journey through this.

@lynnie61 - thanks very much.  Her store has been in business for 45 years. She has been the owner for over 20 years. They were just voted "best in Atlanta" for consignment stores, for the 2nd straight year, a few nights ago. People ship things to her from all over the country for her to try and sell.

And thanks for the thoughts on my health. Feeling so much better.

Great news--your "ornament saga" is playing out just the way you wanted. Your consignment shop sounds like a real treasure.

Even more importantly, to read you are feeling so much better is wonderful.  It can be scary when we are generally in good health and then we feel kicked to the curb. I hope the new year will find you in the best of health!

@magicmoodz - thank you. I am pretty open about it. What started as what should have been a routine, easy to treat UTI after being hospitalized for blood clots in June turned into this never ending cycle of more UTI's and UTI symptoms that would test positive on the quick tests and negative on the cultures. Multiple antibiotics, multiple times each...l think I've already mentioned this, I'm repeating myself, which my body really was not thrilled with. Specialists, tests and, in the end, they put me back on the original antibiotic and it went away. Again, all those different antibiotics. It was just really hard for my body to handle all that and that's what really caused me to feel so awful. I really was quite concerned that I wouldn't recover.

Thanks again. I hope for a healthy 2026 for all of us.

That must be a really  large closet!  Things do get out of hand when we are busy.  We are all guilty

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

It's been a few weeks since I have reported any decluttering progress.  The stack in my dining room corner is growing....I have added a couple of pair of shoes that never really fit well but are so lovely.  Also added some sheets, shirts, a SAC purse, a couple of tote bags,  dress pants, and a couple of bags of pillow stuffing (I never got around to sewing them.)  At season closet-changeover, I did not pull as much as I woud have liked but there was some honest effort.  Guess I will make a drop off at Savers before Thanksgiving.

I almost forgot, I pulled 5 used blankets and a new one to donate to blanket drive.  That was a large step, emptying out a large container taking up space.  I felt good going to someone that needs them.

It was an unusual design. There were 2 sliding doors. But then there was also another 3 feet that extended behind a wall. The other side extended about 2 feet behind a wall. I would put large garment bags and fill with "out of season" clothes in the areas behind the walls.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Hi peeps~

Went to the consignment yesterday....gotta tell ya...it's rare when I drop off that the owner is there, and she was yesterday. Much prefer it. She's much nicer, more open to things than her employees that are such a pain...they must be afraid to accept anything!! None of the nit-picking went on with her at all!

Case in point....I brought along a tourquoise bead necklace, an old QVC purchase I never wear, that I'd tried with them before & never understood why that along with a similar bracelet with a sterling heart charm was denied.

I had mentioned it later to another worker there, saying I diidn't know why it wasn't taken, when I see stuff like that all the time there & she had said to bring it in again. Owner took it no problem, and said to bring the bracelet in too,

(I didn't bring the bracelet yesterday, should have!) All she asked was if it was real torquoise & about how much I'd paid for it. I said it was a while ago but around $50.00.

So, she took that, the ornament tree, which she loved. I did say, I hoped she sells it but if she doesn't I will take it back and use it somehow.  She told me to check back in a few weeks for it's "pickup window", ie. they give it a certain amount of time then you have a window of time after to pick something back up. I do love it, I was just trying to downsize since I only want to put up so much Christmas stuff around & as I've said, I have plenty of green trees.

She took the J Crew jacket & two pairs of pants, (I found another Chicos, very holiday, red brocade embroidered looking, to let go of, I've only worn about twice but was over that look on me and not my best fit anymore), and those teal green Grace & Lace brushed cords I mentioned.

She only gave me back the Banana Republic black skirt, not sure why...it was in perfect condition & classic, but I didn't ask, and one dress which I knew was iffy, as it wasn't really winter...short sleeve knit. No biggie.

Picked up my check. Didn't buy anything, though she had some cute jackets, a nice Calvin Klein gray car coat in size 4 which might have fit me, $68. I'm between 2/4 in coats like that, and usually Petite fits me best. I didn't try it. I really just want to replace my Anne Klein black wool coat I let go of last year with a new one.

My donation items are washed & ready to be dropped off...with 6 items (including that dress & skirt.) I had found another casual black polo type tee to add to that too.

I'll drop that off this week.

That's the update for today.

I do have some other things that are more for spring...and even for donation I sometimes just wait for them to be in season.

Onward!
