So what I predicted would happen with the swing, did. It was cool and breezy yesterday so I didn't spend any time outside. I went out for just a couple of minutes as hubby was taking the swing frame apart and carrying it to out by the barn.
Later on last night I asked him what he did with it. He said he put the swing on a pile to burn (it was too windy to burn yesterday). I asked him if he got rid of the huge metal poles and of course he said he kept them. Oh my goodness, I can't tell you how upset that made me. He said that if he doesn't use them eventually he will get rid of them but how long will I have to look at them before he does.
Supposedly there were some other metal pieces he had kept from a pool that we used to have (it's been down for several years) that he got rid of but I didn't see because I wasn't out there. He was outside for hours yesterday supposedly cleaning up around the barn but every time I go out there it still looks trashed. I just don't know what to do anymore. Sorry about the vent ladies, I'm just so frustrated.

I have a 1995 car that has both a cassette and cd player so I can play some in my car and I also have a couple of old cassette players in the house; however, as I'm slowly starting to go through my husband's stuff I'd estimate he may have had close to 100 of them.
I can go through them and select the ones I want to keep. What do I do with the rest? Do I throw them out, donate them, etc.
What have you done with large collections of old cassette tapes? Thank you!
@BunSnoop - As a teenager growing up in the 80's I loved music and had a large collection of cassette tapes also, I think I had probably close to 150 at one time. I have pared it down to about 50 of my favorites now. Some I have replaced with CD's. I donated some over the years and gave some to my son as he has a cassette player in his truck. I really don't listen to them and need to check to see how they still play as I know some are really faded from sitting in the sun so the quality may have degraded.
With all that being said, if yours appear to be in good condition I would donate the ones that you don't want. I wouldn't throw them in the trash. I think some people still collect them.

@rnmom- I'm so sorry. That would frustrate me also.

Well decluttering friends, sorry you have probably been inundated with hearts from me as I was catching up this morning. Your hearted posts tell me where I left off reading.😀
I just want to give you a cyber hug. Sometimes all we can control is what "we" do. 💕
Not sure if you have dealt with your husband's cassette tapes, but I do think there is a market for them. There is a rather iconic record shop here where Prince used to hang out. I think in addition to albums and cds they buy cassette tapes. You might have a shop similar. You know what they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
I wish I could help you!
Well I watched the Stay Fabulous "belt" video. Oh my goodness! She is a hoot justifying why she keeps what she keeps.😀 I get it though. I used to be emotionally attached to my clothes, but no longer.
I'm not sure when the turning point was. I read Jennifer Scott's Madame Chic book many years ago, but I still continued to have a ridiculously large amount of clothing. I think maybe it was covid when the stores were either closed or had very little merchandise that I lost interest in my favorite hobby--shopping.

I donated old cassette tapes and many CDs.

Today's closet cleaning led to two pairs of Quicker Factory button covers being donated - Easter egg and sunflower motifs. They are a cute way of jazzing up blouses but I rarely used😔. I ran across other things that I questioned but put back.
I sympathize with you but I get your husband's reluctance. Its REALLY hard to part with memories or plans. Over 15 years ago I bought child sized Hummel tea sets for my daughters. They are still in my closet - unused. 😕

@BunSnoop About those cassettes...I agree on both sides of what others have said...
Cassettes do deteriorate over time, but you can check to see how yours are. If they are fine I would donate them...nothing to lose by doing that, and there's always someone out there still searching Goodwill for their "old school" habits (ie. they are NOT streaming music on Spotify, but still using their cassette & cd players, or have them in their older vehicles.)
I have a 2006 car that has a cassette player....I mostly play the radio, or cd player, but occasionally I'll run across music I only have in cassette form and have played it in there...they're very old cassettes, still play fine.
Last, and this is often my recommendation for many things...my mom's assisted living used to appreciate receiving donations of DVD's, VHS movies, cds and I never donated cassettes, but they might have had use for those too. We have many of these type places in our area, so I've often checked if they want things like this.
My mom's place played movies every night in their "entertainment room" for residents, and also had a library where there were books and other things like this for people to use....anyway, maybe someone at these places has a cassette player and would appreciate donations.

Some quick purges today:
An old stretchy tank I never liked, rolled up on me...kept because I liked the "butter yellow" color...duh...if I'm never wearing it... SO WHAT I like the color. (purging lessons for myself...still "a student" of all this process!) Turns out it looked dingy anyway when I took it out of the drawer. Bye!
Set aside another fashion jewelry bracelet to add to donation bag. Set aside more precious metal pieces for Gold/Silver buyer.
Changing sheets on bed decided this set is old, Marshall's purchase from years ago... doesn't fit mattress as well as my others with oversized fitted sheets, like from Northern Nights. Didn't feel as nice to sleep on either as my others.
I'm down to 3 spring/summer sets (I used to have about 7!) and one I only use with a particular comforter set mid summer...so only two to swap out for now....one old, one new. I could use one more set if I see a good buy, but not urgent at all. Really two is enough. I have these set aside for animal shelter, will put in my car later...otherwise if I never get there (it's not close by) I'll just toss these.
Decided FINALLY (oh Lord, HOW many times did you hear me vascillate with these already?? (about as long as you've heard me talk about my mom's wedding dress...still in a bag up in my outdoor storage))...but ready to donate those two dang dolls up there I tucked into a storage box last fall...will dig them out. Done with them. Dang, all the boxes are stacked and I believe these are in ONE of those bottom boxes...sigh....."stewards of stuff" is what we are, I always say....all this "process" is why we are all trying to lighten up and manage less!!
My library is closed this week for renovations, but put another book to donate in my car for when they reopen.
Threw out another cardboard shoebox, shoes I seldom wear, and put those shoes in my under the bed shoe storage, which had some room in it. Trying little by little to consolidate shoe storage & get rid of bulky boxes, where possible.
Shredded more papers in my office, emptied shredder.
I'm on one of those rolls. All inspired my my neighbor's lovely condo. She invited me to come look at her renovations she did a few years ago because I'm thinking of using one of her contractors to update my much needed kitchen reno & flooring. She's German, from Germany...very practical minded, minimalist yet her place is comfortable & beautifully aesthetic too. It looked simply lovely, organized and not cluttered at all. This is NOT a "chotchke" gal. Not trying to change who I am, I like some little things around, and more "romantic" by nature...BUT still, the simplicity inspired me to let go of STUFF I truly don't need to store or let hang around anymore.
Ok....that is all, as this is LONnnnnnng. For now....Carry on.

@rnmom I feel your frustration...and feel free to "vent" anytime here...it's all part of this supportive thread!
It's tough sharing space with others, and everyone usually has different personality types, savers, collectors, hoarders, neat freaks, and everything in between.
You seem to manage it well and consistently, between hubby and your son. I hope, for you, that he gives up those pipes soon, lol...I can't imagine what he will use them for??...but then....I don't think "like a man with a plan." ![]()

@amyb - Thank you, and others for your kind words. I can't imagine what he thinks he will use them for either. He does sometimes cobble together things outside from leftover pieces parts but these are huge. I just want them gone.
I have him, one son that recently left home and another teenage son still here. My older son was over for a bit yesterday and other than some food and dog food he didn't take anything.
I guess he will take stuff as he gets a need for it.
