Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

A few things today:

A bed pillow, no longer good, 10 years old, flattens out when I tried it one more time. I have plenty of fresh ones. Makes room in my front closet, where this was stored, "just in case."

Went through "mom's trunk" in my upstairs walk-in closet where I've saved some of her favorite things, a few clothing items, her family and my baby pictures, a little paperwork left for both parents. Found more taxes and paperwork I could shred.

Another old show program of mine from "mementos." Everything in that realm has been consolidated, but I still keep going through things little by little to get rid of anything and everything I can toss from my "memories!"

That's it for today! Gotta get to taxes next...not today!

Have a good day, everyone.

[ Edited ]

Today I decluttered 3 foundations - still have too many so some may get decluttered in the next round; 1 skin care product, it's not a bad product just found something that I like better; 14 lip products - lipsticks and glosses.  I still have way too many of those too but this is a start.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Forgot to post earlier...while in my mom's trunk, I did toss one of her cardigan tops from there, couldn't be donated; a few of the buttons were broken. I still have a small collection that remind me most of her in there.

amyb, I know that you and I lost our mothers around the same time.  I was just thinking of my mom when I put out some of her ceramic Easter decorations that she painted.  It’s good to have some reminders of them around.

@taquito Aw, I didn't remember that...thank you for saying that.

That's wonderful you have your mom's painted Easter decorations, I love that. 🐰🐣 I have some ceramics my gramma, mom's mom did (Christmas) and some of mom's best friends made her things too, and signed them "to Phyllis" so I love those too.

I especially appreciated your comment because as I posted about the trunk/clothing, I almost said "I know maybe saving clothes (I have a few items that hang in my upstairs closet too) of a person who's passed, might seem creepy or weird to some", and I'd get that. We're all different how we feel about and treat that stuff.

For me & mom...shopping for clothing was our thing, she was a true fashionista...and keeping some of her favorite "looks" around...it's like a special piece of her, I "see her" each time I see them...not weird or sad, to me, but heart warming. Yesterday's one I let go of wasn't special so it was ok to let that go. I think what's left will stay...all have sentimental value for various reasons.

Anyway..💞Tks, for the comment.

I am going to donate an electric blanket that doesn't work really well anymore. It gets warm in spots but not really hot. I was going to toss it but I will take it to the church food pantry where I take other items to give away for free. Someone may be able to get some use out of it, If not they can toss it.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

About half of what was in one attic walkout space.  Amazes me we got so much done. Clothes, throw pillows, throws, shoes, purses, etc.

The key to it?  Last fall I put all the summer clothes in pink storage bags.  So I knew what was summer clothes, and I knew what was boxes and bags of things from years ago.  So now I have winter clothes I "missed" this year stored properly and tagged, along with this years as they go up.

Now as I get out summer clothes, about 1/4 of them will get tossed!  You have to have a system and things tagged or it is insurmountable.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Took 4 container store clear shoes boxes to Goodwill.

Took a few things to consignment- 1 pair of Birkenstocks, a wallet/credit card holder thingy, a Swarovski pen and a Brahmin notebook and refill.

I replaced my bed pillow yesterday and my old one went out in the trash this morning.  I also changed out the 2 pillows I had on my guest room bed with two other pillows I had new, in the guestroom closet. I kept one of the old ones and put it in the closet and threw one out.  So the net result of all that pillow switcheroo was that I am one pillow less.  Always striving for less.

I took one purse to consignment 2 days ago and it has already sold.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@gidgetgh @amyb

I just had to share something silly I did today. I was cleaning/sorting/decluttering things in my linen armoire this afternoon when I came across 3 old dishtowels that belonged to my mom.

Now I am a bit of a dishtowel snob and only keep them in great condition. Trust me, these 3 towels have seen better days, but I just cannot throw them away. I have never used them, I don't even know how or why I have them, but for some reason they represent my mom in sentimental ways. So once again, I tucked them behind a stack of towels only to visit them the next time I declutter that armoire.

@magicmoodz - I understand totally about the dish towels.
