Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

Checked receipts on my desk today, against my accounts, then shredded.

Filed some paid bills off the top of my file cabinet, along with receipts I keep for items bought recently, and some recent, new product booklets.

Found another playbill to toss, as well as some old show memorabilia.

Tossed some mailer envelopes I saved in case I needed a padded envelope to mail something...haven't needed these in a year...didn't need as many as I had, or as BIG. I still have about two, that's enough. They were stashed behind my file cabinet.

Went through another craft/art bin with tools and stuff...nothing to toss there. Though I do have a graphic arts pen set I have NEVER used in 20 years I've had it...didn't toss...lolol...who wants to bet $$$ It'll never get used...not even sure HOW they are used. I bought it way back when I was taking a graphic art/greeting cards design class, and things were "mocked up" manually then. They're all done electronically now, I'm sure, I have to look up these pens and see how they are/were supposed to be used and for what.

ok down a rabbit hole there.

Nothing big today, as you can see.

I do have more paper files, insurance policies, for instance, I need to toss last years and file this years. Just was sick of the paper thing and haven't felt like it yet. Small doses, little by little.

Have a good day, everyone.

**Update today...went through pile on top of my file, surprised I found what amounted to a stack of old papers to shred.

Filed others.

Paper never ends of course...still some to look at closely...like WHY did Statefarm have a $200 increase from my Auto Insurance 2023/24 compared to 24/25?

I already had emailed my rep earlier this year. basically got the 🤷‍♀️ from the rep who has no power or reason she can give but..."Yes, they did have a substantial increase this year." (my cars are old too)..."I can understand if you need to shop around." Which I will be doing. I'd heard SF was bad this year. I'm sure they all are, as I've been hearing, but we'll see.

Another rabbit hole and why paper decluttering can take, not only time, but an exhausting amount of brain drain.

Ok, I'm done for today!!

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

I tossed 2 outdated bottles of lemon juice from the fridge and set aside a small puzzle to donate.

I have 4 filing cabinets and condensed 2 of them so I could open up one for my son to use. He's getting older now and is starting to accumulate more paperwork. He has an accordian file but said it's full so hopefully this will help him get organized.

Purse struggle for me remains.  2 purses are ready to consignment but a few new ones have come in.

I also have a shopping bag of things for Goodwill.  One pair of shoes (shoes are not a problem area for me), a few small things and 3 "setty around items" aka decor items.  My house isn't over the top with setty around items at all, but you know how it goes.  The same things sit in place for years so you don't really notice them. And then one day, like yesterday, you walk around and really look and think nah, I don't want this anymore.  2 of the items were gifts to me and I had them for years, but I'm ready for them to move on. One was something I'd bought myself. So 3 total, but they're very small items. But out they go.

Some other small stuff is in the shopping bag for Goodwill. Not worth mentioning individually.

I did throw away 4 houseplants yesterday. Felt a little guilt about that, but they weren't blooming, the leaves were browning at the edges and I think they were pot bound and I'm just not interested in all that.  So out they went. I'm really not into house plants. Only have 1 large one left that I've had for years and years and 2 really small ones that I just bought because I like the coloring. If they don't make it, I won't replace them. But the large one?  It's going to outlive us all.

Kitchen is in great shape. Nothing to purge there the last several times I've looked through the cabinets and drawers. Same for my bedroom and the guestroom. Paperwork is in great shape also.  I keep very little paper. Like barely any.

Everyone here is doing a great job.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@chessielady - No, I did not see that! I did see that the Giant Schnauzer won though. I wanted one of those as my next dog but we ended up with a poodle instead.

It's been 2 years and I still miss my Chessie every day. He was my heart dog. I'd get another one but I just cannot deal with the hair.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Hi folks~Happy Weekend.

You know how I love to share info about declutterers I listen to and watch...just came across a new one (to me) that popped up on my YouTube...Rita Wilkens. Older Baby Boomer age, so she's different than any of the others I've listened to for the most part which have been in their 40's. She downsized a few years ago from a 5000 sf home to a 800+ sf apartment. She's an elegent older woman, looks like she's living in a very nice place, so it's not a "sad minimilist journey"...I'm going to watch a few more of her videos and follow her a while. Looks like from the titles of other videos on her channel, she addresses things we talk about here...emotional clutter, and other things that seem relevent to many of our age group, time of life. In case anyone is interested just leaving that here.

Don't know what my next project will be...but feeling like I had a productive past week of office, desk, files, papers, and everything is feeling neater, less cluttered, and more up to date.

I've made my consignment appointment for this Wednesday, with the "fussy shop", lol...will only bring them one blazer, that dressy dress I mentioned, only worn once...let's all have a laugh when they STILL find a reason not to take it! Ha. And one Michael Dawkins pearl ring I never wear anymore. Between that and a prettier Barbara Bixby one I have, and a few other pearl rings...I always choose those.

Have a donation bag in the closet for Goodwill, not much in it, that electric coffee pot and odds & ends. I don't think I want to wait for it to fill up much more but just drop it off.

Other clothing, will check with my other consignment and see how far out they are booking, and the remaining will be donated soon. I think for now I've slowed on adding anymore clothes, but will check before going out the door with these. Also will check in case there's more jewelry to bring to the fussy consignment store...they sell a lot of jewelry, but, has to be fine jewerly or artisan/trendy brands.

OK that's the wrap up on my week~have a good wknd, all.

But wait! There's more today....

Just went through 3 hat boxes in my office where I store extra frames, and electronics and their accessories...

--Added a lucite frame to Goodwill bag

--Shredded some old picture negatives

--Tossed extra old ipod plug-in earphones (still have too many of these, tucked here and there, and as far as my current cell phone, it has no plug-in jack, only uses bluetooth earpods.) I get rid of them as I see old, extras around.

--Tossed, (FINALLY) my 1990's Sony Walkman! (kept my Discman for now..baby steps, y'all! lol)

--Set aside a little faux leather accessory clutch, (I had two...went with a faux leather tote bag, brand new, I still have, but this extra one was to my old tote, I no longer have...the accessory pouch is brand new, never used), to either donate or maybe one of the consignment shops wants them.

That was a quick, 5 minute peruse and purge!

Re: D ateclutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

@rnmom  Hair?? That is just Chessie glitter! I have had 5 Chessies at a time....once!  But always at least two.I have one now that is a heavy coated one and the other one has what we call a "horse" coat not as many curls and a smother coat.

I used to show Cardigan Welsh Corgis....now that was way more hair.  But that is why we have Hoovers!

I think that these two Brillo butts will be my last. I just do not think that I have any more puppy raising energy left!

How is Tucker doing? I have a fond place in my heart for standard poodles!

Re: D ateclutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

The hardest thing is just doing it.  Facing the problem and dealing with it.  Letting go.  After that, the rest is easier.  It's not always the physical work, but the sorting, categorizing, and deciding that you have to do.
