Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

@Snicks1    I have NO idea how I can lose a lid or a bottom.  Every once in a while, I go through ALL (yep, too many) lock and locks.  How on earth does one piece or other disappear?  It's quite puzzling to me.  I've thrown disposable pieces away, but I know I don't trash lock and lock - if I decide to trash or recycle it it would be both pieces.

@gidgetgh   When I moved back to my childhood home last year, I decided to trash a small table that was worn, water marked, not beautiful.  In the trash it went.  I mentioned it to my sister.  It was a table my father made in grade school.  (Not sure how I didn't know that story).  Well trash day was two days away.  Retrieved it, and now I can't part with it.  I may refinish it this summer.  My dads health is failing, and I really want to keep it now.  I think it may have originally been a telephone table.  It currently holds an old Christmas cactus.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

@gidgetgh The book from that library talk I went to on decluttering is this:

"My Intentional Life" Connecting Your Heart To Your Life and Home by Sheri Bertolini

It wasn't, as I previously thought and said in the last post, only just about emotional clutter, but there are chapters in the book that address that. She says "one of the toughest obstacles in purging, are memory related keepsakes."

While your old faded pillow was perhaps not a keepsake, as you said, you always loved that bench with the pillow on it from your parents' home. No doubt a lot of memories and emotions, both conscious and unconscious, are attached to it.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Today was a small declutter.  Months ago I ordered some Perlier body oils from HSN.  Don't like them or use them and they sat on my dresser and every day I had to move them to get to something else.  Today was their declutter day.  The two bottles were put out in the trash.  I have an RMS face oil that may be next.  Guess I don't like face/body oils.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

@amyb

Thank you for what you wrote to @gidgetgh !

Finally pitched a neat makeup brush... I love brushes because I always think I can use them for water color painting. But I already have so many!

Also, an almost new brow product that was the right color, but had no staying power.

What gets me is that I spend good money on these things, and so keep something that under performs just in case. (I hate running out of something.) But really, it is time to do a lot more of this type of purging.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

Still going through kitchen cabinets/drawers (this will be an ongoing project I can tell, lol), today's in the trash list is mostly old sponges and a dish scrubber/brush thing, all of which I also had new ones ready to put into use. These were all under the sink in wire baskets/drawer type things. I have so many different types of cleaners that I need to use up one by one, instead of bringing in another product for certain uses, geez, so many cleaners. Also a junk drawer got cleaned up and sorted through, nothing got tossed, but did get put in the correct area at least. 4 more drawers and 2 cabinets to go and I'll be halfway through the kitchen cabinet project.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

[ Edited ]

Hi all,

Turns out...my little 8" ceramic coated T-Fal fry pan was peeling also...so out that went! Scratched too. Both of those were a waste of money; barely had them a year and just never performed so well as non-stick, even before the peeling issue. So now I have NO non-stick small egg pan...going to either go to HomeGoods and look for a small cast iron pan or buy online. Today I used my Mark Charles Miselli egg cooker, and also a traditional non-stick griddle pan I have, to make omellette and some breakfast sausage.

Also, yes MORE electronic decluttering. Been doing a little each day...and it's more than you think...phone texts, pics, IPad messages, 2 email accounts worth of /Inbox/Files/Sent/Junk/Promotions, also did my "Favorites/Bookmarks" file. Still more to go, believe it or not...this stuff accumulates and bogs my brain sometimes, with all the "important info" I'm supposed to save and refer to!!

Also, some outdated I'm sure (over a few years old) open Dr. Denese Hydrosheild glycolic pads...these do expire and are not good to use once they do. I still have an unopened jar I know is a few years old too...none of these have exp. dates, and should! I just know the life of glycolic acid pads are 6 mos to a year, and these are a few years old, at best. (I used to have a DD auto-D kit that had these in them and accumulated, as I used these less often and regularly than the rest of the items in the kit.)

Before tossing the unopened one I may email DD's website for advice. Maybe they can tell me how old they are by the numbers they have on the bottom of the jar.

That's it for now.

Re: Declutter 2025: What Have You Purged Today?

It's not a "declutter" per se but I did put 2 small eyeshadow palettes in the donation box.  Once I take the box to the post office and send it to Project Beauty Share, is when it feels like an actual declutter.

I've been on a roll with those non-performers. You know, those shadow sticks that come in a set, but are really not the most flattering colors; eye shadow things, eye liners, barretts that don't hold your hair, lipsticks, fragrance samples...all discarded.

I pulled it out of the trash right after I posted.  It's freezing cold out and dark and we are expecting snow and ice on Friday and I'm all out of sorts about that and getting rid of the cushion tonight was just too much for me. It was seriously like I felt the cushion has feelings or something. Like I haven't seen it in over 8 years. Bring it home and immediately discard it. Again, I felt bad for the cushion which is strange.

I am a world class de-clutterer. I declutter very easily. But not tonight. I know I will part with it eventually as I have no need for it and it's worn out. Will give it another week or two and see how I feel when it's sunny out and not so cold and we aren't expecting bad weather.

@gidgetgh - I'm glad that you decided to keep the cushion for now. Sit with it for a bit and let your emotions settle. I know that you will part with it when you are ready and that is the important thing, being ready.
