De-cluttered Hubby's "Man Cave" while he was at work - Looks soooo much better now, and he even said so. Smiley Happy

*Whispering* - I also tossed another coffee mug - 6 down, 3 more to go. Smiley Wink

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

Ugh, I wish that I could say that I was decluttering but most of the areas that are left to declutter/organize are spaces full of DH stuff and I'm just frustrated. I look at how full the spaces are and I just don't have any incentive to even try to organize them. He has brought too much stuff home from his mom's and we just don't really have room for it, so I'm just stuffing it away for him to deal with later. I wouldn't mind so much if I it was stuff that we will use but I know that a lot of it will never even get touched, like a bunch of old cameras.

I have made some comments about all the c**p he has brought home and I'm hoping that he will go thru some of it after hunting season is over and he doesn't have so much he wants to do. I'm trying not to get frustrated but it's getting harder to bite my tongue. All this useless junk is driving me nutso.

Donated 2 valances and 2 lamp shades, both items were replaced, so no gain, but I didn't add to the stash. Lol

ETA: tossed 2 potholders in the trash.

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

@rnmom I can sure understand your frustration.  Seems like DH is working hard at de-cluttering at his mom's and but the result is adding clutter to yours.

Maybe instead if just making comments and biting your tongue, you and DH could have a serious talk about his decluttering method and how it is affecting you.  .  Such as instead of bringing home and storing it for later, many things are obvious trash or donate at first glance and do so immediately instead of adding to the stored stash  Perhaps you could make some of the decisions about which items to store, trash or donate.  I bet  you would be more objective about these decisions.  DH is trying to get it done the quick way and causing a mess that will be a problem later.

Anyway that is how I would handle it at this point.  His mother's needs to be decluttered but not at the cost of too much useless clutter at yours.

Oh my! Sounds like many of you are continuing to make great headway in decluttering!

My own efforts have been minimal, My sisters were here the other day and and between them I "unloaded" 5 pieces of clothing--all new with tags. I think I suffer from identity issues, having bought things that just aren't "me". Needless to say they were happy to be on the receiving end and was delighted to be on the unloading end!

@nwbabs

I am always reluctant to make recommendations in today's world because quality can certainly decline. I checked every Anthropologie store near me and none of them have the dishtowels we discussed. I guess I will have to place an order (maybe they will have a free shipping day soon).

@amyb

Growing up my mom always adhered to a cleaning schedule, but then she never worked outside the home. I don't think I am disciplined enough to stick to a schedule, but maybe a list of things that must be accomplished every week and crossing them off as they are done.

@rnmom

I am sending you a cyber hug.💕 I sense you are carrying frustration for your home and out-buildings being used as a storage locker for items from your mother-in-law's place. Since hubby seems to be more motivated when you join him, do you think it might help if you schedule some time to work together kind of evaluating items as to their usefulness, need or could they be donated/disposed of? I know just going through his clothing/shoes, my husband is more motivated and appreciates my validation that he is making good decisions (and of course I nudge him in the direction I want him to take😀).

I saw a picture of a holiday wall hanging that I "think" will replace a tree this year. It was a big tree branch painted white hanging on the wall vertically with various ornaments and greenery hanging from jute all the way across. Always marching to my own drummer I don't usually decorate in reds/greens and found ornaments in copper, gold, and ivory. With my luck I will buy all this stuff and, well, you know...

Hi everyone...everyone's still chipping away, big and small.

As for me, chipped away more at my old statements/files this week and threw out 3 more full shredder bags. Old 2020 statements of an account I no longer have, I didn't realize I still even had. I know why I kept it longer...as we all know a lot was going on that year, plus I had my mom's estate, and some of her accounts that went into this company before I transferred it all over to my current accounts. I know that's TMI...but just saying...I usually only keep 3 years back financials, but held on extra since changes were made, it was a crazy year, so just in case. I only just realized I still had them...definitely didn't need them any longer.

I feel like I got something new to replace something old recently too, but can't even recall that right now...but either way, it was a one in one out thing.

That's been it for now. Still have more files to go over closer...some old insurance files and such. I just want to deep dive a little more.

I have some books I'm eyeballing up in my office area/shelves...definitely don't need them so we'll see.

Weather is beautiful this past week in CT...cool, sunny, clear...may get some rain Sunday...but it's been perfect early fall weather. Been enjoying several walks and a hike last Sunday...get these in while the getting is good around here!

Have a good weekend, all!

ps. @rnmom I really feel your frustration with all that stuff your hubby brought in...especially since you've been on this decluttering journey so diligently this must feel overwhelming, not to your doing, and like a set back.

Not wanting to cause any havoc between you two, but I'm wondering if while he's out hunting if there are some things he just will never miss, that you said you'd all probably never use, that you could toss? Or, maybe just be open about it, if that works...let him know you just can't hold onto all that stuff you truly have no room for and that you want to let go of some of it asap.

Just a thought.

It's not fair for this to feel like your undoing now...not blaming him, life happened, and he's probably been doing the best he can trying to help his mom. I'm just saying I feel you and hope you can resolve, rather than hold onto this frustration, for longer than makes sense, for stuff you know you probably won't ever need or use!

I was there for a while with my mom's stuff, when we sold her home....I had no choice in my small condo with no extra storage....I had to rent a storage bin for about 4 months, so I could chip away at the final things...for all my efforts we just ran out of time before we had to be out of the house.

So, it's a struggle that comes in all shapes and sizes with different solutions for many an adult child at some point. Sending you good vibes..hoping you can resolve and get rid of some things soon! Smiley Happy

***update*** I just read @magicmoodz suggestion too...that's a good one!

Six large bags of shoes and clothing being donated and picked up next week.  But why is it I still don't have enough closet space!

@Biftu Lol...how many times I've said this to myself after cleaning out my closet and what feels like constantly decluttering clothing, and not shopping for new as much as I used to...I look and say..."good job!" at the pile I'm giving away, but why is my closet still full?!! Lol. It's the "8th wonder" of the world, I think. Smiley Wink

6 large bags though....GOOD JOB!! 🏆

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

Donated two large boxes of clothing and one large box of household items to a local thrift store on Saturday.  Next week we plan to sort through men's long and short sleeved shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, pajamas, shoes, slippers,  etc. and prepare it for donation.  I always launder the clothing before donating and that takes me awhile.
