Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

My purging has been going slow lately.  M recent purge the last two weeks has been the following:

Sweaters 3   SHRUGS  2   tops    - 2        pants  -  5     shoes -  2

expired pantry/fridge items - 4

We have a consigment shop that takes ten items per week and i have been there 4 times this summer so 40 items gone there plus several trips to donation centers so many items purged this summer but it sure dosent seem like that many are gone from closets ,etc

and the portable mixer DH used for mashed potatoes.  I heard a big bang coming from the kitchen and DH said it shot fire from the socket.  Bare wire where attached to the mixer was the cause. DH then finished mashing the potatoes with a kitchen tool he uses to tenderize meat.

Nice job @KathyM23! It sounds like you've been making some fine progress. I'm so glad your DH was not hurt with that electrical incident. Scary! Have a wonderful weekend.

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

Today I'm packing up some summer clothing, moving into transitional...it's a beautiful summery/fall day here in CT...been that way for a few days. One of our best times of year, temps-wise...foliage colors are just starting to come out.🍃🍁🍂

Anyway, back to cleaning up...I thought to myself, LITERALLY...didn't I only JUST switch things to summer?!

The seasons of life fly, don't they?

Tossed another shredder's worth the other day.

Threw out an old ratty coin purse that popped up in my car.

Went through a little stationary box I keep on the kitchen counter with a pen, for any quick notes, business cards of jobs I need to get done, doc appts notes, just "current business." Tossed a bunch of old notes in there. Updated to info I still need to refer to now.

Did some deep cleaning this week....bathroom floors, shower tile I don't scrub down often enough.

I listened the other day to a declutterer podcast, and she had a "cleaning guru" on giving tips on how to keep the cleaning cycles going on routine. Having dedicated days...like Mon-dusting, Tue-floors, Wed-bathroom, Thur vacuuming. So that it keeps up and only takes about 20 minutes a day, if you really just focus and get it done. I straighten up all the time and wipe down surfaces...but I can get random on dusting, vacuuming, bathroom scrubdowns. So trying to get more regular with all that.

This week I did some inside fall decor swapping out summer for my fall decor and packed up other things up in my outdoor storage.

Put out (among other things) my new VPH twinkle pumpkins that were the TSV last month...LOVE them...they've added a nice cozy atmosphere each night.

That's it for now...not spending all this beautiful day house cleaning, everything's feeling pretty good today. Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

@amyb   I hear you with a cleaning schedule!  Before retirement, I worked six days a week.  No way was I spending my only day off cleaning all day, so I always did something every day.  Now that I retired, (I still work one day a week at my previous part time job).  I still keep the cleaning up, doing something daily.  I have to sadly admit, I'm not the "duster", that my mother was.  When we were kids, we dusted about every other day.  🤣🤣🤣.   What?????  Makes me laugh.

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

It was warm outside yesterday, but windy, so I spent just a few minuters outside with hubby helping him toss some garbage from around the barn. Ripped out tarps and plastic sheeting, scraps of metal, an old chicken feeder that he had built. It wasn't a lot but it filled up our trash can.

He seemed to do better cleaning up with me out there, I feel like he just ignores it even though he sees it every day but he was willing to clean up a bit when I went out there to help. If it's nice next weekend we will see if we can add a few more things to our trash can.

Bits & Bobs

Ousted several items to make work space for a big project that will require a written inventory and photographs. Needless to say, lots of Bits and Bobs to Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo. Don't know why that song from Cinderella popped into my mind. Where's that Fairy Godmother and her wand to make some magic when you need her. Woman LOL

Before my coach turns into a pumpkin these items gone:

-dozens and dozens of old plastic hangers

-old printer

-standing fan

-table top fan

-Apple iHome & iPod

Appreciate all who post their purge journey.

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

Here it is, October and it is my first post for the year.

I haven't purged much since last post until recently.  Our town is having a shred day and hubby and I went through old paperwork.  Good lord, I threw in the bins at least 15" of old medical reports that I had been keeping, it's all online now so why??

Hubby has two huge bins of old statements, receipts, folders for insurances we haven't had for decades, old checks from old closed accounts...etc etc etc.  It feels great and I have a whole cabinet now free.

We talked this morning about adding on to my craft room (like, really??) a big closet to store my excess craft supplies.  I have a lot of supplies because I sell a lot of different items and I scrapbook, stamp, make decorative glass blocks, paint and sew.  Too much $$$ invested to really purge.

My middle sister passed in late 2022 and my oldest sister had moved to Florida and lived with her.  Now that probate is over she will be moving up to CT to live with hubby and me on the 30th, her 79th birthday.  She will have the entire upstairs, sans my craftroom which I have spilled out into the loft area so that is the need for the closet.  I want her to feel like she has her own little apartment upstairs.

I'm rambling, so sorry folks!  That's it for me, for now!

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

After years of sitting boxed in my master closet my niece will finally get my Christmas Holly Lenox set of 12 with all the completer pieces.

I had surgery on my foot and my younger son drove down to help me and he took the china home with him to my niece.

I'm thrilled to give it to her, she's happy to have it & use it & I'm happy to get the space back 🙂🙂

I even sent a box of seasonal decor she wanted home with him, I don't decorate like in years past.

Re: Declutter 2024: What Have You Purged Today?

Removed 12 logo tshirts.  Probably should have removed more but felt good.  Found some Philosophy shower gel that had separated - might try to see how it smells.  Pitched a bag of foam curlers, a damaged Contigo coffee tumbler, a few plastic cups.  More baby steps.
