@ninjawife wrote:I work per diem during the summer and this week I have a lot of time off so I am on a mission to do some decluttering.
I decluttered the desk in our home office. I put things away but didn't really get rid of much, just papers.
I also decluttered the laundry room. I am donating a small throw.
On my agenda for the rest of the week:
Linen closet
My closet in the master bedroom
My lingerie chest of drawers
My books
I would also like to find a place to store some large storage container my DD bought.
I got through all of the above plus my side table next to my bed and spice cabinet. I bought lazy susans to put the spices on during Amazon Prime days so now everything is neat, organized and easy to access.
I keep a barrel in the spare attic room off my bedroom for donations and I have filled it will various things from my decluttering adventures. I will bag it up and take to Goodwill when I have the time.

@Roscoe the Rascal I am so very sorry for the loss of your dear husband...my heart goes out to you.
It sounds like you've really made progress, considering the way you are, understandably, feeling...but I also get the "clean like crazy" when something happens...I'm often that way too. It's a distraction, and makes me feel useful when emotionally, otherwise, I'd just feel stuck. Moving physically helps me a bit out of whatever's bugging me emotionally.
This from your post: "I am thankful that we talked about projects we needed to get done around here and that I have been having success finding the right workers. They have done a great job and I called the place my husband wanted to check out. Makes me feel good and I know he would be proud of me."
That's half the battle, I find...finding good people to do the projects...that alone will make me procrastinate projects forever!
Your husband would be proud of you for sure! Maybe he's helping.. (I hesitate saying things like that...just my beliefs, I know everyone has different ones on that..)
Bless you...it takes a while...step by step. Hope this doesn't sound cliche' but saying prayers for your healing. Give yourself a break as needed...do something nice for yourself too...whatever that is for you. There are lots of supportive women here, and sounds like, with your daughter and grandkids...in your life too.

I do believe my husband has helped me through all these things as well. Things have happened off and on and I just believe it is him guiding me on. I do have faith and so did he.
I am calming down more now than before. I am accepting what is and took some time to realize he is really gone.
Thank you for your kind words and a I do believe in the power of prayer. I will take those prayers. Thank you.

@amyb Hi. 🤣🤣 No, I'm not Italian, but I cannot let my pantry go too low! Don't want to plan a meal and not have a staple. I guess I get that from my whole family. Also, really stocked on paper goods as well. I would be crazy if I only bought what I need this week only. My friend can't stand excess, and I'm the opposite. I have cut back on stocking too much, but I want the staples when they are on sale. I really rotate well, and try to just buy what I use over and over. I always don't meal plan every day, sometimes it's whatever is on hand and want to make. We will never starve here.
Besuty buying is wayyyyy down. I have wayyyy to much body wash, shampoo, hair products. The make up is manageable. The rest is overstocked for sure.

I have two boxes in an extra room and they are both almost full and ready to go to a donation center. Earlier this weekend I let go of a nice skirt and a dress - the skirt has not been worn in a couple of years and the dress was just OK. I know I can dress how ever I want...especially at church, where I dress up more but the skirt was dressy and I feel that I would have felt out of place if I wore it.
I am trying to purge my closet of things I have not worn in a while but it is hard. I went thru Christmas items in my spare room closet and managed to get rid of a couple of things.
As the holidays draw closer I have a few things In want to put on Marketplace.

Every little bit helps. I can go thru a closet and save something and then next go round is like why did I save that. I got rid of all my skirts and a few dresses I no longer cared for. I just didn't wear them much any more so why keep. I have dresses I enjoy wearing and keepers but some of the others not so much.
I did get rid of some of my Christmas stuff but I am very selective on that. I'm just not adding to my collection any more.

@Snicks1 I go to the beach every year with two girlfriends.....we usually make something at the beach. One year we all made jewelry. Of course, I bought all the tools, beads, wire etc. I have NO desire to make anything. It all went in my last donation pick up. I offered it all to the friend that still makes jewelry, but she has sooooo much, she declined. I hope it brings joy to someone.
I get pick ups at the house by a Vet group. I don't even have to haul it to goodwill. Win win.

@RedTop wrote:The last truckload of stuff from the main rooms of moms house went to the dump this morning on FREE dump day! What a lucky break with our timing, as my husbands truck was loaded down with 6 kitchen chairs and numerous bags. Free dump day is a huge success here, so my husband and daughter were 4th in line at the gate before 7:30.
I just shake my head over some of the things Mom had sitting on shelves and stuffed in drawers. I found the quilted peach bedspread and matching curtains that were in my bedroom here in 1984, and went to her house by 1990. She still had the cotton bedspreads that covered my brothers twin beds when they lived at home!
Going thru this experience again makes me want to get a dumpster and empty half this house to keep my girls from having to purge my stuff!
@RedTop - I have sometimes wondered what my family would think if I dropped dead tomorrow and they were going thru all of my stuff. I guess it won't matter because I won't be here, but the thought has crossed my mind
This is one of my fears. I can't bear the thought of someone going through my underwear drawer. Everything is clean and neatly folded, but still...
One of the drawbacks of not having children😢
@magicmoodz - I don't know which would be worse though. If it were a stranger it really wouldn't matter what they thought because they wouldn't know you. If it's a spouse or kids then they will always have the memories of whatever they see.
There is just no good way to deal with someone's stuff after they're gone.
Thinking it would be easier to have a stranger handle our affairs, a few years ago I looked into engaging a fiduciary upon our death. I fully admit I have trust issues, but honestly I only found one that I was truly impressed with and she refused to work with us. She said we were too young because she was around 60 and didn't plan on working forever.
Oh well, we have named one of my sisters as executor. She will have the privilege of sifting through our we stuff and just so she doesn't get all crabby about it, I am making it financially worth her time and effort (although she might still get all crabby).😄
