Happy New Year everyone! As promised, here is the Declutter 2024 thread!
The new year is a perfect time to look around and begin to get rid of the old, unused, unwanted and unloved items in our homes as we make room for all the new. Here we can all work together to declutter and organize our homes to make them the functional, and restful, sanctuaries that we desire them to be.
If you are new here this is where we post our accomplishments about what we are able to get done, and get rid of from our homes, which can help to give others ideas and encouragement and motivation as to how they can improve their homes too.
Some people are methodical and will follow a decluttering schedule, doing certain rooms or spaces in a specific order, others declutter as time allows and as something sparks a need to look at a specific space. There is absolutely no right way or wrong way to make your home better. There are some wonderful ladies here with a lot of good advice so please feel free to ask questions if they arise.
All purges count, big purges, small purges and everything in between. Whether it's a whole house purge because you're moving or just a dried up ink pen, any progress is better than nothing. Every item that has to be touched and handled is still one more item that is out of your house and one less item you have to deal with. It doesn't matter if it's donated, trashed, returned to the store, or gifted to a friend, if it leaves the house, it counts.
As new items come into our homes old items must go out, so decluttering is a never ending journey. Let's go on the journey together!
So come on in, post often, and let's start the journey to a less cluttered life!
Welcome everyone!

Thanks for kicking off 2024.
Already boxed and ready to go are several black fleece turtleneck tops purchased last autumn.
The fleece has shed all over my house and drives me crazy, so the tops have to go. I had no idea they were going to do this, but it has been a constant battle between the little black fleece balls and my vacuum.
Also some scent diffusers that were a bad purchase. No matter the scent I use, it ends up smelling powdery and stale.
They use batteries, so that's a pain in the backside too.
What was I thinking?

Hubby is still asleep so I decided to clean out the fridge. Threw out some things and gave it a good cleaning. Also, just cleaned out the closet in the master bedroom. Soon I will be on my way to Good Will.
Happy New Year Everyone!

Thank you @rnmom for such a nice intro to 2024 Decluttering Thread ~ And Happy 2024, everyone! 🎉
The last two days of 2023, after I did my last post, with intentions to go through some financial papers...I did that.
Tossed several old quarterly report books. Then went into a few files where I found old 2019 statements, I shredded, along with any other old papers. I threw out 3 bags of shredding.
I also went through my catalogs and tossed all fall/Christmas, outdated ones. Also went through my magazine rack, and tossed some things. I don't really get magazines anymore, no subscriptions, but that's where some marketing magazines, that come in the mail, live.
I've already got my eye on areas that need looking through now that the new year is here...more papers/old files, for sure. And other areas of the home too, of course.
Here we go!

I already recycled my 2023 calendar and got out my new one for 2024. I still use a paper calendar mainly just to check what date/day something is on. I don't write on it, but I like to have it to look at for reference. I could probably put it away, I don't need it hanging out. I will think about doing that and see if I like it.
Tossed a rag that was so dirty I didn't even want to try to wash it.
Put several boxes from Christmas into recycle.
We've been eating all the Christmas leftovers and I cleaned and organized the fridge and freezer in the kitchen yesterday. Tossed one condiment that had spilled and was a sticky mess. Caramel topping of all things. My son put it upside down and the cap wasn't on tight. Figures.
As I was putting away Christmas I set aside to donate one fancy ornament from my mom that I don't like, a hand towel and 2 strands of garland.
I got a label maker for Christmas that I have been wanting for YEARS and I re-organized my Christmas item and re-labeled the totes. I condensed from 6 down to 5 totes even though I didn't get rid of a lot. They weren't all full before, now they are.
I am going to have fun organizing and labeling everything!

I have my donation bin set up and ready to go. Not much in it yet but a few smaller items. By the time the rummage sale at church comes it will be full and that is my goal for sure but shooting for two bins full.
I have been spending my time organizing items and cleaning things up in different areas. Tree number 2 is going down today. Left it up New Years but all the ornaments are put away.
Moving forward and started my list of to do's for this month. Setting goals for myself each month and things to look forward to as well. Trying a new approach this year.

planning on doing a big cleanout in my closet, have a fraction of what I used to have, but another sweep to clean and organize will be fun

Happy New Year and thank you for getting our "clutter goals" off to a good start for 2024.
After much procrastination and life changes in 2023 I finally cleaned out all my closets and seasonal decor💃
Right now I have my car packed with 6 boxes and bags of items to drop off at local donation center. I plan to tackle next years of old receipts and statements having my own shredding marathon !
My spouse saved everything some day when I'm ready I'll clean out his closet and drawers of his belongings.
Although, I'll admit I am a dish and tableware collector which needs a good purge. Someone else can enjoy them - that is my next goal to purge my hutch and server -- I was a avid temptations collector so I'm sure someone will be happy buy at goodwill.
Since it's just me I'll be purging and cleaning out my pantries -- I could feed 5 families from them🤣🤣those items will go to our community food pantry.
Best wishes for a healthy & prosperous 2024. For me, just to be "clutter free"

We ended the old year by taking a bunch of my son's clothes to donation center. Something possessed him to purge his room of unwanted clothing, AND wash it himself in readiness for donation. For him, that was quite a step.
So combined that with a few pieces I had to donate.
Wishing a happy and productive New Year to all!
