Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

@JudyL

Yes, the pans were beautiful, but so very heavy.   Once you fill them with something, it's almost impossible to move unless you have lots of strength.

These things get molten hot, too.  I know they have some resale and collection value, but I didn't want to take time to fool with them, and my sister-in-law just wasn't going to do anything but keep them stored.

I'm sure they will find a good home Cat LOL

Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

It's been a while, and today's purge was out of necessity. A few days ago our local animal shelter had a fire, thankfully no staff or animals were hurt. But, all the animals are now being cared for and housed at the animal hospital, along with their normal patient load. So, they sent out a plea for towels, blankets, etc. I rounded up a few of each, as well as calling one of my neighbors whom I know doesn't "do" social media, to let her know and she gathered up more than I had, I picked up what she had and delivered it all to the animal hospital, along with a tub of peppermints for the staff to get a bit of an energy boost while running to care for all the extra animals.
Lol, long story to say I purged 3 towels and 2 blankets. The young lady who accepted the mints and the donated materials got tears in her eyes when I thanked them for what they were doing. So sweet.

@Witchy Woman - I'm glad I could give you a laugh. Smiley Happy

That pan does look heavy, is it cast iron?

No, it's aluminum.  Below is more than you'll ever want to know about it.  I see it was sold from 1930 to 1956, which makes the pieces I had probably 93 years old.  I said 100, so I wasn't far off Cat LOL

In its day, Guardian Service Cookware was acknowledged as a superior quality product line. Originally from Los Angeles, California, made by the Century Metalcraft Corporation, Guardian Service Cookware was offered primarily through the presentations, demonstrations, and sales pitches of independent salespeople. These products were sold from around 1930 to 1956.

What was so attractive about Guardian Service Cookware, apart from its novel and triangular design, was its clever and (at the time) new method for the “waterless” cooking made possible by the domed, watertight lids that kept the moisture contained to the food within. Before the Second World War, each pan and pot also came with a metal lid, and the solidity of such hefty cookware made them the envy of their day. Even in the post-war years, when glass lids were introduced, there was no denying the sturdiness of Guardian Service wares.

For more than two decades, these products were sold far and wide. Unfortunately, it was in 1956 that a fire destroyed the factory, and production accordingly ceased. Presently, according to Guardian Service Cookware’s official website, the price tag on an entire set of cookware would amount to roughly 2,500 U.S. dollars.

House Slippers:

  • One worn out pair in the trash.
  • A brand new pair that does not fit me well in the donation bag.
  • One pair I put in the wash.  If they shrink a little after being washed I may be keep them; otherwise, those will also be put in the trash.

Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

I had so-o-o many pictures in frames in what might be called a family room, although it hasn't been used as that in years. I decided to reduce the cluttered look and put them into collage frames, which meant reducing many of them to a 4" x 6" size, which I did today. Well, now, naturally I had all these frames that I don't want just piled up somewhere, so today I dropped off 16 various sizes of frame to the donations center. Surprise, surprise, lol. I didn't think I would have anything else till after the holiday, but there you go, just never know when there will be something to donate or declutter.

Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone...thought I'd pop on today after just doing a desk cleanup, going through accounts, shredding slips.

My last "wrap up" decluttering post, as I'm sure there'll be no time to do anymore until the new year.

Last week did my final 2023 drop off to the "fussy" consignment store...they took 3 pieces of real jewelry and cut me a $46.00 check. Every little bit comes in handy this time of year. They missed some 14k gold and hematite earrings, I bet thinking they weren't real. I decided I'll keep them or bring them with my scraps to the Gold buyer.

Also dropped off last consignment to my other regular store...they took the Christmas decor (including the "infamous" pillow, lol) with no problem. The fact that my appt. came so close to Christmas, not sure they'll sell, but que sera' sera'!

Also, gave them the costume pieces of jewelry the other store didn't want.

I decided to donate that nice ski jacket, even though I knew my regular consignment store would have taken that...donating to that church in hopes someone in need gets it. Bringing a few tops to them also.

In the New Year, I think I'm only going to consign things of decent cost value, otherwise will donate more. Easier, and hopefully someone needs it.

Been reflecting on my decluttering this year...my takeaways for 2023: We all have TOO much. (duh) Even the donation centers and consignment places are overloaded and not always wanting things. And yet, I know I'm a careful, thoughtful shopper, who definitelly is bringing in less these days. I just always notice that every place, even the ones ASKING for others' goods...seem overwhelmed, and turning things away!

Also, the saving bags aside in closets or the car, for long-range consignment appts, has gotten tedious, so I'll do less of that.

I am always glad when I make the extra effort to find sources for particular items that actually want them...like animal shelters, senior centers etc. That feels good.

So that's a wrap on 2023 for me! Would love to hear if anyone has any 2023 takeaways from their decluttering journey.

Thank you all for being here, and for @rnmom for continuing this community of declutterers. I'm always interested in and inspired by you all.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy, Healthy, Organized New Year to everyone! See you in 2024! 🎄✨🎉🍾🥂

@rnmom Evidently I wasn't too happy about my Christmas purge of my favorites because after some thought I found a place for a couple of those favorites.  Since my neighbor and I are such good friends, I felt comfortable enough to ask her for 4 of those ornaments back.

I got my 2 shamrocks back and I am going to leave them  out all the time and 2 large white with plaid poinsettas on them which are now part of one of my vignettes.

After all, I did leave her with 92 ornaments.  Her neice came and helped her put them on her tree.  She is having her Christmas get together for her family (about 20 of them) tonight with a potluck dinner, gift exchange and a new game she found on pinterest.  I am sure I will be having alot of good dinner leftovers tomorrow,  I know of chicken and noodles for sure as she is bringing some over this afternoon for DH and I after she makes them.

Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

We have been filling a huge cardboard box for months now to take to the Union Mission.  Within the last few days I have added shoes, jeans, and a handbag I am finally ready to let go of.  2 t-shirts and a pair of my pajama pants went in the trash, along with one shirt and a pair of pajama pants for my husband.

All shredding is up to date and all catalogs are bagged for trash pick up on Friday.
