Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

I'm doing small things like @amyb the last day or two. Tossed a plastic ice cream bucket that hubby had left sitting outside for his bees and a lid to a garbage can that we no longer have.

I also tossed a bunch of grocery store plastic bags. I usually save them to give to my sister and she gives them to a food pantry, but I haven't seen her in a while and I just had too many here, so I threw away 4 bags of them.

Tossed a pair of pants my son ripped out.

Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

Well, after listening to a few episodes of that podcast I posted about yesterday, I took some of the advice...set a timer (as I colored my hair, lol...have to wait about 45 min anyway!), and tackled one area of my office. I'd done my desk and a few files last week.

I have one small file container specifically for current financial papers. As I do mail during the month, I typically just lay any financial statements or quarterly reports, etc, that come in, on top of that file, until I'm ready to file. Often it goes unfiled for months!

I went through all the papers on top yesterday, filed and found old things that could be shredded too. I also get to review as I go to keep me up to date and aware. And I found better ways to file and keep each category organized yesterday. Felt very accomplished in just the short 45 minutes, and that area is neat & better organized now, with a better system going forward!

Have a good day, everyone.🌸

Today the charity truck came to pick up the items I mentioned in my earlier post. Well, I didn't do a recount once I finished loading the driveway container, and one of the pickup drivers was very annoyed with me. I had about 7 boxes more than I had itemized and was sternly admonished. The other driver was very pleasant and courteous, and I even helped him stack boxes on his hand truck while Mr.Crabby Pants stood and watched. I apologized for my mistake, and was told that in reality he should just leave the miscounted overage. I said fine, I'll just arrange for another pickup and you'll be back anyway.(I understood what was making him crabby but sure didn't appreciate the lecture.) I remained calm and polite and thanked both of them for their help.

The decluttering project continues - more boxes to sort for donate/keep/sell. But the biggest part is complete! Our temperatures will now be in the 90s and above for the next several months, so my time in the garage will be early early mornning -- I'm not waiting until fall. Stuff B Gone sooner rather than later!

@DrBabs - I'm sorry that happened to you.

Angst and hoopla is why I tend to do no yard sales, no charity pickup. So easy to drive to Goodwill and in the blink of an eye it's gone. And for other things, 1-800 Got Junk. Quick, quick, quick.

When I decide to declutter something, I want it gone by the quickest way possible.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

@gidgetgh   I don't conduct garage sales and would normally just drop off at charitable organizations, but this project is too massive and requires pickup. In all my years of donating to charities and using their pickup service when appropriate, I've only had 2 episodes of driver attitude. The rest have been appreciative, kind, and respectful.

@rnmom   This specific charity pickup has always been issue-free, so I think I'll continue  to donate there as well as some of my other favorites. I provided feedback via their follow-up survey and hope the experience was just a fluke.

Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

This week we took an SUV trunk full of donations to a church thrift store.  They are always grateful for donations and use the proceeds for mission projects.  This included a lot of men's short sleeve shirts, cotton and wool socks, new underwear and tee shirts, two pair of bedroom slippers, a spice rack (with instructions), a room humidifier (hardly ever used), a flour lamp and other assorted items.

We have two large dog beds (laundered) and a large travel crate which we will donate to our hairdresser.  She currently has three dogs and said one of the dogs does not have a bed so this is a perfect choice for Max.  The dog toys and several towels, rugs and blankets will go to a no killer shelter.

Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

Made my appointment to consign next week...does that count?!😄

Have a small collection of clothes..a top, summer cotton blouse worn once, summer skirt with tags, cotton T-shirt dress and a few other items so far. May be able to add something more by next week, I will definitely go through some things to see if I can.

And....on this beautiful Friday, heading into a holiday weekend...let's see if that gets accomplished! Appointment is not until next Wed. Smiley Happy

I have to admit, I am more in the "hold on to it" mode in recent months. I guess because I've really gotten down to a lot of things I still use/want. But even the "iffy ones"...I'm just feeling more "thrifty" these days...it's a sign of the times, I believe. I think @rnmom was mentioning this too, and I think it's valid given the cost of things now. That said...still always on the lookout for items of no more value to me, broken, past it's prime, etc, in order to still declutter.

Everyone have a nice and safe weekend. #remember🇺🇸

@DrBabs   Sometimes I rethink things and maybe the crabby driver just had a bad day.  I'm sure they are grateful for your donations.  I had a nurse this week with an attitude, after waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes, I politely asked if it would be much longer.  Well, she about bit my head off, and in a very loud voice, said he IS a specialist and you're not in the two hour window.

I replied, yes, I'm certainly aware he's a specialist, and I didn't know anything about a 2 hour window.  She then game back and apologized.  Geez. I asked a simple question.  The Dr is the kindest thing, so I won't complain.  I think she got my point.

Re: Declutter 2023: What have you purged today?

Tossed all the rest of the mousse, some (several bottles) shampoo and conditioner that I used when I was a "blonde."   I found the stuff in the back of the closet

I still have a shelf load of stuff to look through.

On the up-side - I found a bunch of  Ulta Cheekers (small blush compacts).  Going to crush them up into my blush container.*

*(I crushed all my odds and ends of blush compacts together into one jar of powder blush .... turned out to be the perfect shade! )
