@rnmom Glad that you are starting a new thread for 2023. I need it. Just unloading the dishwasher I realize that I haven't purged some kitchen cabinets in awhile.

Thank you, and look forward to 2023 and reading your encouraging comments.

Dropped off huge bag of plastic bags to recycling.  Dropped off items I have gathered over past two weeks - some Christmas items, some items sent in exchange for donation (please!! No more! Don't waste $).

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

About 15 seconds ago my husband said that he was going through his closet today. We went to a funeral yesterday and he had to pick out a dress shirt. He said he has a gazillion shirts that he will never wear. So today he is going through his closet and donating all the shirts he knows he won't be wearing again.

I already started a pile. When I worked our office was always cold in winter. The heat pump in the office could not handle cold days. I had a large assortment of heavy sweaters. I got rid of a bunch but there are more that I will never wear. So while he is making piles of clothes to donate, I will too.

As I am making piles to donate, I am wondering how I ended up with so many clothes.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I have purged a lot lately because I am on a company shut down for two weeks.  Loving that.  I usually start purging in January after I start putting all the holiday items away but I started when I had all my decorating done.  I had way too much stuff I had to drag out and move and decided time to get serious.  Did some purging and organizing and donated items someone else would use.

Since then did some cupboards upstairs.  Cleaned and organized and purged some items.  Did my husbands drawers and we donated several t shirts and things like that to the  Catholic Worker House in town.  His drawers never looked so good.  Been on my list for a long time and finally got him in the mood too.  He always says happy now.  I say for now I am.  Lol

We received lots of snow last night and supposed to be cold and windy.  We did our food shopping and finished running around yesterday so going to do some more work around the house today.  I have a big cupboard calling my name and today is just the day for that job.  Tomorrow making dips and things for Christmas Eve so purging is over until next week.

I have a box downstairs and a box in the car trunk always that I put purged items in and when full I drop off to various donation places.  I am going to continue keeping boxes all of 2023 as well.  I'm also going to start a box of items to donate to church rummage sale in the fall.

My News Years purging resolution is to shred old taxes and documents stored in garage up above (we had a small business at one time) and we can start shredding them now and had to wait to a certain time period.  Purge the clothes closets again come spring and hit every cupboard  again in the house.  Make a list and check it off once I complete one.

What I had fun doing this year to keep me motivated is for the 12 days of Christmas I had to clean and organize and purge one item for each 12 days.  I purchased all new bath towels and donated most of the old ones to the animal shelter for one.

Next year I am going to do an item a day for advent or donate to a charity if I can't find an item to donate.

I need stuff to keep me motivated but I love to organize. Just don't always have the time to do as much as I would like.   Feels so good after.

Happy Holidays and see you in 2023.  Keep on purging.

@geezerette - I'd LOVE to simplify my life, but I just don't see it happening anytime soon. Between work, the house, 2 teenage boys, 3 dogs, etc my life is anything but simple. And it seems like it is getting worse all the time. There's always some crisis popping up.

Someday, if  live long enough to retire, raise the kids and get them out on their own, downsize to a smaller place, lose a dog or two, things might slow down some. But for now, it's just generally pretty crazy around here. Lots of activity and lots of stuff. I try to simplify where I can just because things ARE so crazy, but it's a challenge for sure.

@rnmom

It's been almost a year since this post.  Any closer to the simple life? Heart

I am older and closer to retiring.  Grown kids and so life is simpler.   My daughter has two kids and a husband and she can't always get to it all either.  Hard to do certain times in your life.  Don't beat yourself up and do what you can when you can and enjoy the kids and the activities and things change as life goes on.

Find ways to makes things a little easier and do not try to do it all yourself.  We can't be super women all the time.    Good luck.  Happy holidays and take time for yourself.  You do deserve!!

Much needed purge of the fridge this morning prior to weekly trash collection.

I try and do that before garbage day as well but I did it extra good this time to make room for the holiday stuff.  How does it get to be such a mess is beyond me sometimes.  Oh wait I have a husband.  Lol

I haven't been here for a while, but I still donate on and off. Just been a very hectic last few months.

Thought this was appropriate for this time of year. Merry Christmas everyone!

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Merry Christmas Purgers. I've been MIA for a minute but I have been keeping up.

I cleared out the fridge yesterday to make room for my Holiday food delivery that came today.

I discarded the plastic containers that my husband has been collecting and there are just too many. A few are all that's needed.

I brought some papers to work this week and shredded them there. The industrial shredder there is awesome and I can do a load in under 5 minutes.

I need to organize my closet. It looks like a cyclone hit it and this morning the door went off the track because it was just so cluttered. Maybe tonight...maybe not.
