Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Yesterday was a good day for looking through accumulated stuff! It was raining and a dreary day.  We have a closet in our finished walk out basement that at one time contained extra food that was on sale.  I pretty much forgot about it.  To my dismay, there were still some canned goods in it from 2015!  Cleaned it out and now I have room to store extra bedding.

Will donate humidifier, bread maker, and extra fall decor to organization that sells donated items to support our local Lutheran High School.  I hope that it gets easier to part with items the more I declutteri.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your brother.   And so soon after the passing of your husband.

You are to be commended.  I think if I were in your situation I'd be curled up in bed and decluttering would be the last thing on my mind.

Please do take care of yourself. ❤️

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I got off to a slow start today, I was just really tired, so I wiled away most of the morning doing nothing.
Then I needed some things to do my part of the repair work on the bathroom sheetrock (the workman came yesterday) so I got off my duff and got moving. I also got my car's oil changed and ready for winter.
Then I started sorting through the Christmas decor (what a job), already have a big box ready to go, and haven't even gotten to the tree and tree decorations yet. I spent a little time messaging some people about items they might want and have homes for several items lined up. Several things will be loaded up tomorrow with help from my daughter and will be on their way. Most of tomorrow will be spent dealing with the leaves on the ground so I don't think I'll be doing any more decluttering for a few days.
Have a great evening!

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

When I commented in a Halloween thread about an old coat I threw away, I realized I hadn't visited with you guys lately. It's been a productive week. I took a large garbage bag and walked from room to room asking myself if there were things we'd never use. I found a photo scanner, books, shoes, some decor items and my great aunt's fur coat. It was probably custom made in 1930 with her initials embroidered inside but not the kind of thing I would find a market for. My brother wore it in the 1960's when he dressed up as Yogi Bear for Halloween. It's one item I couldn't part with, but it went in today's garbage. As some of you have said, we need to take our time when disposing of things with memories attached.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I'm trying to declutter at least one place/cabinet/shelf, etc. each day.  Today was the cabinet above my refrigerator.  What a mess!  Plastic glasses and paper plates came flying out as I opened the doors.  I asked myself, "Why do I let it get this bad?"

Organized the napkins, paper plates, and cups.  Donated many plastic knives and plastic spoons.  Someone could possibily use them for crafts.  Extra dog bowls, plastic bowls, and unopened holiday napkins also ended up in donation box.  Felt great to get another space organized!

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

@AuntG

My mom has been holding on to my grandmother's Persian Lamb coat with mink collar. She had her full name embroidered in it. It's really nice but very heavy.

 Ever since I bought a lightweight, Velvet, faux Persian Lamb coat, she keeps insisting I take grandma's coat. I don't want it because I will be guilt tripped into keeping it 4 ever, and I would have no place to store it.

I am not a "keeper" like my mom is. I think my sister and I went the other route because that behavior overwhelms us.
It doesn't even have to be much clutter, and I start getting anxious.

I love your Yogi Bear Halloween costume memory!

@KBEANS

Thanks for the notice, I have posted to this forum before, but didn't know it covers more than my old T-shirts or used pocketbooks.

I will check in more frequently now.
