@aprilskies - great, great job!!

Porcelain dolls are a hard give I think. No one really wants them, or just about any collectible. My mom had some dolls, 5 maybe,  and fortunately someone took them when she died back in 2011.  But it's now 11 years later and it is just really difficult to find people to take them.

I think I read somewhere years ago that the bottom just fell out of the collectibles market after 9/11 and that sounds about right to me.

It is hard to give those type things away emotionally also.  I had Hummels.  Not a ton by any stretch, but several.  I gave all but 3 of them to Goodwill several years ago.  I kept 3.  My original 3 actually. I kept them because I love them.  I should have stuck with those 3 and never have expanded my collection.

you really did a great job yesterday. Bulky items also.  Where you can really tell a difference.

@gidgetgh Thank you.  Felt really good to let things go.

For the collectibles, yes, there is no market, the most I was hoping for was for congregation members to take a piece or two and just enjoy them especially these days as people are going through some tough times. I did keep a couple of pieces but that was it.  If I don’t find a nice spot for them, out they go.  No more things in storage that never see the light of day.

Next are my dept 56 porcelain houses.  I will keep just a few of them and let the rest go.  Maybe this weekend coming up.

@aprilskies Sounds like this may already be after the fact, as I think you brought all your dolls to Salvation Army. But just in case you have any other of those type things...I did a post a few weeks ago where one of our local memory care senior centers took 5 of my porcelain dolls ~ Madam Alexander Little Women and a Scarlett O'hara doll. They were so appreciative and thought that there was a chance they could spark memories or strike up conversation in their tenants.

Anyway...senior centers, assisted living do appreciate a lot of different things other places don't care about...especially the old timey things.

I've also donated VHS movies, DVDs, books for their libraries. Maybe they'd like some of your other collectibles to "cheer up" their rooms.

Just a thought. It does the heart good to do this, when it works out too. Smiley Happy

Good job with all your recent purging!

@amyb : Great suggestions for" old timey items" to donate to senior centers!

We have several here in town. Although I don't have dolls or movies to donate, I will keep your suggestions in mind for what might be appropriate to donate. I know the senior  centers like to receive puzzle books and easier puzzles.

Today's 30 minute purge: Garage and the rest of my shoes.

Shoes and bags are so hard for me to part with. I've done a lot better with clothes, but the shoes and bags- not so much.

That said, 1 purse will go to consignment this week. The owner will love that it's a kate spade- one of her favorites. I also returned a newly purchased bag for a refund- didn't need it and was not crazy about the wine color. Considering returning another bag as well.

In the car going to thrift tomorrow:a large basket, a curtain rod,a toy foam football, a few misc. hardware items and 3 pairs of shoes. 2 lone shoes without mates went to the trash, as did a pair of sneakers too beat up and old to donate.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Yesterday, I took a step stool and cleared some items from my kitchen cabinets that were either expired or just not used. It wasn't much but it made a difference.

I got rid of a bottle of Metamucil, multi vitamins, shelf stable milk, carnation condensed milk, an olive oil bottle and paprika.

Did a quick fridge purge and dumped Bone broth that was hanging around too long, takeout white rice, peeled garlic,(remind me not to purchase this anymore) some shriveled up cheese and an empty egg carton.

Slow and Steady wins the race.

I am starting to majorly declutter.  I have always had a donation box going but yesterday I was able to let go of good bakeware/cookware that I just wasn’t using. I used these things maybe 5 times in the years I kept them. They were oval, I like square.  Also let go of lock n locks and just a lot of misc thinks like that but my biggest accomplishment was letting go of my collectibles porclain dolls ad figurines. So may times they were on the chopping block and I couldn’t do it as I tried to find a good home for them. Well I thought I had this time and I tried two churches in a last ditch attempt but they wouldn’t take them so off to the Salvation Army they went.  It killed me a little bit but they were not coming back in.  Also gone, a steam vacuum.  I used this maybe none and it was taking up precious space needed.  I have a long way to go but off to a good start. And the garbage of all the packing paper and boxes gone.  Amazing how much space I gave/give up for things I am not using.

Long way to go with collectibles but next up are video games. If I don’t hear back from a relative by end of today they are gone. I had these for my nieces and nephews through the years but these are older games and the world has moved on with at least 8 newer versions of systems and newer games.

I did forget to take a shoe rack yesterday and I might put that out today.  I am sure someone will take it.

@laluzdelmundo, I do my best decluttering when I am in a mood. I was always able to make the tougher choices instead of getting soft on everything.  Yesterday I was feeling quite disgusted and overwhelmed because I took all containers out of their hiding spots and had them everywhere. Been like that for a very long time and yesterday I had enough. Things just have to go.  I am hoping to keep this momentum going.  It always wanes a bit but letting the collectibles go especially was cathartic.

This thread always keeps me going. I enjoy reading everyones accomplishments big or small, it all counts.

Have a a nice day.

@aprilskies - Welcome back friend, haven't heard from you in a while! I am so happy that you are working on making your space better. I know those collectibles have been weighing on you, literally and figuratively, for a long time. Hopefully with them being gone it will lift that weight off your back.

I have actually been saving some stuff that I would normally donate. Mostly household items. I'm keeping a few things in case my kids might want them if they move out in the future. I know it's not going to be for several years, but it seems silly to donate something then turn around and re-buy it if I have the room to store it.

I haven't even asked them if the items are something that they might want, I just haven't gotten around to it. I just put it downstairs to store and figure I'll figure it out later. There's just too much going on right now. But it is something I should look at and ask them about, maybe this winter when I'm cooped up inside for months and months. It's actually getting cold here fast, so it might be sooner rather than later. I am not ready to be cold all the time.

Yesterday and today I continued my brutal look on my stuff.  Went through all of the video games and got rid of maybe 90% of them.  One medium box and 2 bags ready to go to the library.  Also pulled a ton of dvds and some cds that were easy hits as I was going through.

Surprising to me this morning I was brutal with my clothes.  I was in pretty good shape in this category but I was brutal.  I pulled clothes that were just too cutesy for me now, uncomfortable, never reached for or maybe once a year, etc, or just plain over them.

I have clothes that are just too small and sometimes feels like I will never fit back into but these extra 30+ lbs are next to declutter although it is tough for me and I can’t seem to stick to a plan.  However this will be the last year I will keep these clothes.  If I am not making strides with weight loss than I need to address these clothes.

For now though, I have had a productive weekend and feel I made some headway.  I have a long way to go but if I can keep this momentum, I will be in good shape at some point in the near future.

Keep up the good work everyone. Glad you are all here.  It helps to talk with like minded people and share progress.  Thank you.

@aprilskies - You are doing so well! I am so impressed!

I hope that your momentum keeps up!

We were able to get rid of 6 of my parents TV sets at a nursing home. They were so happy to get them.

Both my parents were in a nursing home and in different rooms, and my Mom insisted on also having an assisted living apartment plus their house.

So they needed smaller TVs for their nursing home rooms. So bought new TVs for their nursing home rooms. Then for Mom's assisted living apartment, we bought a larger TV. Plus the TVs that were at their house.

So the nursing home was able to give the smaller TVs to people to use in their rooms.

And the bigger TVs were able to go into common rooms. It give a choice of different channels depending on the common room.

Some of the collections mentioned here could possibly be donated to adult daycares or after school programs for children.

A local program is already thinking ahead to their daycare services on winter snow days and things they will need to help keep children entertained.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Today's purge is one that I had not tackled in a long time and thus was long overdue: my vanity makeup drawer.

I was tired of rooting through the chaos every morning and taking forever to find what I was looking for- if I could find it at all. I needed something to help organize and categorize my makeup items, but on a budget. I purchased a Rubbermaid silverware tray at a thrift store for $1.00. Fit the drawer well with room left to spare on one side. Tossed a few items, cleaned the drawer and organized the rest. Success!

Took the bag of shoes, a purse and 4 dressy/ holiday clothing items to consignment. She accepted everything. The owner is always most impressed with the Linea by Louis Dell Olio items that I consign. I hate to see them go, but they are way too large for me now.  Also returned to ReStore an under bed storage box for credit as it did not fit under the guest room bed .

Tossed into the trash a kitchen trash bag that was half full of clothes and undies that were not appropriate to donate.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

One small bag of misc. items dropped off at the donations center today. I don't even remember what was in it. I finally had the majority of a whole day at home, so I had plenty to do just to catch up, on housework, etc. I didn't do any additional decluttering, just some cleaning, also my brother's laundry. I doubt he ever goes back to his home to live, but still, the laundry needed to be done, so I decided yesterday that I would tackle it today. Tomorrow is another day on the run, so, I have no idea when I will make real progress. But, at some point in time, I will be back at it, along with all you fabulous declutterers, lol.
