Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Spent some time shredding stacks of papers from having recently gone through "some" of DH's papers. Some were also mine. Still have more to shred and more to go through. That's the extent of it for today.
Everyone is doing great and I do get some incentive from just reading your posts.

Also, I always wonder why some places insist on original wrapped items and put their noses up on some pretty decent items? 🤔

The facility is relatively new. Not sure when it happened but someone told me that even though it was a brand new facility, the homeless shelter was dealing with head lice and bed bugs.

That is why they did not want donated towels, bedding or clothing that might bring any unwelcome critters.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

My husband and I took a walk around the neighborhood this afternoon. We past a house and they had a Lenox box out at the curb. It contained a winter snowglobe.

It struck me how Lenox items are regarded. It is trash day on Wednesday so I guess they put it out early in case someone wanted it.

Good  point!  I didn't think of that @drizzellla

I have a big fear about parasites myself. It keeps me from buying secondhand, taking things in from others, borrowing things and being keenly aware at where I hang my coat when I go out, and at work.

I tossed one item from the pantry and one from the fridge that were past their prime. I don't toss a lot of pantry items but it was time for these two to go. Between the dogs and the chickens we don't have a lot of waste, but these weren't suitable for either unfortunately.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

I did more paper shredding today, took another pass through DH's dresser drawers, found more items I can let go, a small plastic grocery bag full of things, and tossed a few things in the trash. Spent a short period fussing with setting up more files in the cabinet to be better organized with all the paperwork, then did a quick look through the fridge and one kitchen cabinet. Unfortunately, I found several expired items, or well past their best-by date, so I disposed of those, also.

I still have some Lenox items.  I'm sure it's generational...

I just love the milky ivory color of the pieces, trimmed in gold. I have a few my mom bought me too, so they are sentimental...she got me a couple little swan dishes, I keep jewelry in in my bedroom armoire.

I also have a beautiful Christmas serving plate with a lovely saying on it. I also gave one of those, the year I got mine, as a gift. I think it's something like "the Giving Plate" about passing things down on it, Christmas memories etc.

I have a few other candy type dishes or whatever else you might use them for, with embossed flowers on them, trimmed in gold...also, mom bought. But that's all I have.

At any rate...I still like Lenox items I see. 🤷‍♀️ But don't need anything else.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

Well...some days are better than others on this declutter journey...but in the spirit of relating to y'all and being honest...

I had that appt. today for the consignment shop to pick up my check and bring a few winter/seasonal decor items.

I talked myself out of bringing 4 items before I left! I don't usually do that.

And ya know what...I'm not sad about it. lol.

Two nice, expensive, hardly worn winter boots...one white furry pair, and another fleece lined tan leather pair from years ago, hardly ever worn, I want to wear this fall! Tried them on with my leggings today, looked so cute! They are like brand new...I just stored them away and stopped wearing them a while ago.

And....my mom's puffer coat we bought for her, her last Christmas...one of the things on her list...only got a chance to wear it a few times. I have a pretty pic of her in it, with the scarf I gave her I still have with it, sitting in the restaurant, last time we got to go out. The following week Covid shut down her assisted living etc etc.

I just couldn't today...I thought I was ready and I wasn't. So BF said...so just keep it (that's all it took, cuz I thought for sure he'd say the opposite!) he said....maybe next year you'll feel differently. I thought I was ready, that it took up too much room in my closet, that it could be being used by someone and mom would tell me, "oh try to sell it, don't bother to keep it"...but ALL that...was superceded by the way it felt when I held it...soft, cozy...like when I'd help her to the car in it or help her on with it....and I just didn't want that feeling/memory to go away. A picture of it wasn't enough....at this point. Logical or not...I'm glad I kept it.

Also a Christmas throw and pillow I thought I was done with...until I took it out....turns out....I'm not done. Haha.

SO, that is MY "decluttering journey" for today! 💁‍♀️

Not to mention...while at the consignment store I picked up two items there...great prices, (still took $75.00 home.)

These very pretty, modern plates (4 dessert type, square, curved) with a birch tree & simple small red cardinal in the tree. Matches my indoor winter scene, because I have a pre-lit indoor birch I put a cardinal ornament on that someone gave me. Just spoke to me, wanted them. Need dishes like a hole in the head. Still love them. Smiley Happy

And two beautiful, deco style, made in Italy, cobolt blue glass tealight candle holders for a friend of mine who loves that style.

I brought them a pair of Calvin Klein black pants, and a Christmas Boynton looking thing someone had given my mom, and a glass angel cherub thing, someone gave me, they took. They didn't want the Dennis Basso scarf...I think it's dated, as it's that "eyelash" type that was so trendy, but about 12 years ago!! I still wear my others sometimes.

They gave me back the jewelry that didn't sell. I'll just bring all that to the other shop I'm bringing winter things to in Dec. (men's things...today's shop only takes women's things.)

That's my lonnnnnnng story for today! #itsajourney

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

[ Edited ]

Today I dropped off a small bag of women's socks to a small charity thrift that I know sells new and nearly new socks.

Packed and ready to go to the thrift where I bought these items: some small wedding related decor that I will not use. I called to ask the church if we could use small bubble containers and was told No, so 3 boxes of 25 each will go back for someone else to use. I probably paid a dollar for each box, so not a big deal. This church is in a very upscale area of D.C.-I guess they frown upon such little, fun gestures. Would have made for some nice pictures. Maybe DIL can use them She is in 2 weddungs next year. Glad I called ahead. More room in my suitcase now!

As I will be away at DS's wedding for a few days the fridge will be purged this evening in advance of tomorrow's trash pickup.

Re: Declutter 2022: What have you purged today?

@amyb  You did good!  Any chance that you're able to fit into Mom's puffer and wear it in her honor/memory? Or a dear friend that could fit it?

I ask you because I noticed that if my husband or other son can wear his clothes; I am not at all bothered by it.

As a matter of fact; I wish they could wear everything, but some things don't fit.

I don't feel bad when his items are worn by them (his loved ones) and then worn out. I just can't bear giving them away to strangers right now.

Down the road I plan to make a quilt with his favorite shirts.

I know all this sounds strange...but my grief journey is strange and was so unexpected.
