De-cluttering question -- makeup

Hopefully this is ok to ask as a singular question in the HOME forum.  Bit of a de-cluttering newbie.   If there is a better place or way to ask, please just let me know.

Products below:  ok to keep or do you recommend to throw it out?

1).  Mally Evercolor gel waterproof liner, 10 piece --- older item, but unused.  Tried one of them, and it still seems fresh.

2).  NuFace gel primer (5oz) ---- opened, tho has lots of product left inside

Thanks!

Re: De-cluttering question -- makeup

They're both probably fine to keep, especially the eyeliners.  Open them and use them.  The primer is formulated with some kind of preservative so it's likely ok.  You'll know it's unusable if it smells bad, if the consistency is "off", if it's separated, etc.. However, even if it seems ok, there has to be a reason why there's still a lot of product in the tube, as maybe you didn't like it or you quit the NuFace.  That one I'd probably pitch regardless.

Thank you, @JeanLouiseFinch -- sounds like wise words to me!!

With a product such as JM Argan Reserve... a product that technically doesn't have preservatives... is that better to throw out?   Will check scent and consistency like you mentioned as well.

@Julie_23 @jackthebear @JeanLouiseFinch

May I just add this?
Since I'm allergic to titanium dioxide, I pay attention when I come across something related.

Yesterday, I read that there is a common chemical used to coat titanium dioxide in makeup. The article said that as it breaks down certain dangerous chemicals are produced.

I often suspected this because older makeup seemed to be a worse culprit for causing my Lichen planus spots [one was on my face for SEVEN YEARS!]
I wondered this then discounted the idea

 But now there's proof!
My beloved foundation had been discontinued about  30 years ago but I kept purchasing it anywhere I could. So I will always wonder if my facial LP was caused from using expired makeup!

Thanks, @jackthebear !!

@LTT1 -- That is interesting.  I believe it.  Chemicals break down and their metabolites aren't necessarily studied.  It sounds like that could very well have been causing those issues.  Good that you realized it now at least!!

Re: De-cluttering question -- makeup

I used to love JM and used her argan oil for many years.   I do not think they last very long though.  I had spent a fair amount on her reserve oil and it developed a bad smell not long after it had been opened.  It had to be tossed.  Since then I no longer purchase her line, I've moved on to using Beekman and have not had a problem at all.

But any product that is open and has been hanging around for too long it's best to discard it.

I say, anything you haven't worn for a long time---toss it. And of course if it smells or is gloppy. I have so much old stuff that I NEED to go thru and toss--have been doing that weekly for awhile. I had lots of eye shadow colors--those are gone as I only wear neutrals now. Lipsticks are another thing I never wear--out they go. It's kind of like clothing--if I haven't worn it in a year--it gets donated/tossed.

Probably.  Oils can go rancid.  You'll probably be able to tell by smell and color.  Going forward, keep your oil bottles refrigerated and only transfer a usable amount to another bottle.  Something @SilleeMee suggested in the past  was to cover the refrigerated bottle with foil if the oil isn't in a dark bottle.

Re: De-cluttering question -- makeup

W/hand lotions, when the tube is almost empty,I cut the bottom of the tube off and transfer the amt left over into a small "tupper ware" type container. I am always surprised at how much product remains in the tube.
