It is somewhat dated but it could be fixed by painting the dark cabinets to match the others and replacing the dining set and the light above it with something lighter and newer. The pillows on the sofa and loveseat need to be changed out with pillows in cool blue tones and maybe a nice throw in a blue pattern. I would not keep the orange chairs. I would also remove the fake ceiling beams and paint the ceiling white. Some greenery in the glass vase and a new lighting fixture above the table. I would also remove the coffee table. The room needs to basically be cooled down since the colors are far too warm.

We are in the midst of choosing paint colors for almost all of our home's interior. I cannot get anyone to suggest anything but Agreeable Beige...it is gray! We are selling soon so don't want to do anything too bold. The baby pastels are apparently farmhouse colors, but I am so over that....and I think most everyone else is also from what I see on Houzz.

I'd take it over a cold, impersonal, gray-toned contemporary room any day.  (But I'd replace that dark, ponderous ottoman, maybe with a glass-top coffee table.)

Re: Dated or Not...?

Very easy for a quick update. New kitchen lights( very 2006), nix the ottoman coffe table (very 2005),, update area rug with newer patterned rug(very 2005). Everything else is fine. Place is only sightly dated.

I've seen this room before, and I still like it. I like the mix of warm colors. I also like most of the furnishings and accessories. Looks very real & livable to me.

Yes, it's probably dated by today's style preferences, but that doesn't bother me. I would never change my home just to keep up with trends. I stick with what I like. I change wall colors and window treatments occasionally, but changing out furnishings and appliances every time a new home trend comes along would be quite expensive.

I don't care for all the grey, white, and bland neutral colors that seem to be popular now. Just not my style.

Im with you. I had the gray and beige colors in my living room, but give it color each season with pillows and throws. So I have color in spring with nice pillows that have yellows and grey in them with throws to match. in autumn, the burnt rust, and winter the deep reds and gold.

My whole house is dated, but its colorful. My daughter's house is beautiful up to date, they can afford it, but depressing and cold in my opinion.  You have to live in your house and whatever makes a person happy and upbeat is up to that person.

To me this room is not dated.  I love the built-in book shelves.  This room appears comfortable and cozy to me.   I may change out the pillows for a softer color, perhaps in a soft green or blue.

On the other hand if you posted a "current" room I may call it dated.  I sometimes do not like current styles.

@stevieb

I like the livingroom loveseats .. the color & "seagrass" material appearance.

I also like the wall color.

I'm not caring for the rest of the furnishings, kitchen (blends into the wall), carpet, etc.

Thanks for sharing.
