I am very old so I have had lots of vacuum cleaners.  My first was an Electrolux that my grandmother gave me as a wedding gift.  It lasted more than 20 years.  I bought another Electrolux.  My husband, foolishly, gave it to the darn Rainbow man as a trade-in and yet paid more than $2000 for the vacuum cleaner.  It lasted about 7 years.  I think my housekeeper did not take care of it because several friends have had them that lasted for 20+ years.  I bought an Oreck.  It lasted about 3 years.  I bought a Dyson from QVC (plug-in). It lasted about 2 years.  I now have my 3rd Shark.  I don't know if we are just rough on vacuum cleaners or we have had a lot of pet hair that has destroyed them or just what, but vacuum cleaners don't last us a long time.  But I can say Dyson went the fastest followed by Oreck.

@Sugipine Thanks but I wasnt asking for a  solution. Im not purchasing overpriced, overhyped products that break within a short amount of time compared to their competitors who are far superior. Thats all. Bottom line - Im not a happy/satiffied customer with Dyson.

I have 2 cordless Dyson vacation, love them. The 10 year old one needed a new battery so I got a non-OEM battery from Amazon and replaced it myself.  Easy.

I agree. They do not last long at all. Two to three years is all they last and they should

give an additional battery with these cordless vacs.

I have two and both were Back Friday specials, still spent too much on these throw

away items.

@mintedrose We currently have 4 cordless Dysons in our home and 2 corded units, and 1 in our motorhome. I would not trade them. The newest ones we have (15-Detect) seems to die quickly, especially if it is used full power with the laser going but once I figured that out I have not ral complaints. Though I did buy an extra battery for it. We love our Dyson vacs.

I was just at a sew and vac repair shop to get my sewing machine repaired. They also sell vacuums and sewing machines. There was a woman there picking up her repaired vacuum. She told the guy that she was thinking of getting a Dyson and he advised her not to do it. He said they only last a couple of years. He said they won't even sell them.

That is exactly what our vacuum repair shop guy said. He has many Dyson vacs that he repaired. And either people did not pick them up or didn't pay for the repair. He said that he doesn't recommend them.

I bought a Dyson and I was so disappointed. I now use it to clean leaves off the outside rug by my front door.

I have a cordless Hoover Linx. It came with 2 batteries. It still works great and has to be more than 12 years old.

i own three dysons and have gifted some to my kids when they moved out.

all three are still going strong, with the oldest being around 15 years old.

i have had to replace the battery and the filter on two of them.

they are worth it to me. have definitely gotten my moneys worth out of them.

do NOT leave them plugged in. once charged, remove them from the charger.

I think the early battery operated Dyson had a shorter life...just like many other brands of many different battery operated devices. Batteries have gotten better.

I did buy another brand of a cordless vacuum to keep in the basement. It has no where near the power of the Dyson.

I have 2 cordless Dysons and have had one for 5 years and the other 2.  Way more power than a corded Oreck I had that was practically worthless for cleaning my carpets!!  They take up very little room and easy to manuever.  Great for cleaning my car also.  So easy to manuever in tight spaces and the power is better than any other vacuum I have ever used!!

Buying a Dyson is not the problem, buying a rechargeable vacuum is. I refuse to buy anything rechargeable just for the problem the OP is stating. I have several Dyson vacuum cleaners, all corded, have had them for years and years without a single problem.
