'DECORATING WITH THRIFTED FINDS' VIDEO

maxresdefault.jpg

This is for those who love thrifting, and vintage and antique hunting-- it's a way to get your browsing fix and not buy anything or feel guilty!

Since quarantine, I've discovered some interesting online thrifters.  Many of them do it, keep their items for awhile, and then put up for resale.  That way their houses do not become bursting-at-the-seams museums!

Robin Johnson has a knack for finding things, and putting them together attractively in her home.  She has her favorites, like they all do-- some like old transferware china, some love old silver, some like architectural salvage,  etc.   I've gotten ideas from Robin and some of her cohorts for putting together my tiny collections of vintage items in new ways.

She even has done videos on a "whole house purge",  room by room, so that she does keep her acquisitions down to a manageable level.  I love that, b/c that's what I have done over time.  I like a "fleamarket cottage" look, but mine tends to be a bit "leaner" than some, just as a matter of personal taste.

Anyway, it's fun to see her largely thrifted house and arrangements as she explains them:

Re: 'DECORATING WITH THRIFTED FINDS' VIDEO

@Oznell ; I live for thrift decor!

My local store finally reopened this week. I was not hoping for much, but I scored something from my "wish list": a pair of bronze buffet lamps, $8.00 each. No shades, but replacing shades on good, vintage lamps is a given. They look perfect in my dining room.

Also scored 6 beautiful clear cut glass salad/ dessert plates and a set of 3 espresso cups and saucers. Each set was $1.00.

I consider myself a High-Low kinda girl. Every room in my house must have some vintage items included. My style is traditional/ transitional, not antique, Victorian, farmhouse, rustic, Craftsman, MCM or orther styles featuring older items.

I will certainly look up this video when time allows- thank you!

What a lovey collection!  I too have many old pieces throughout my home so I can appreciate her love for her decor.  I find it enjoyable to display groupings and individual pieces on my tables and shelves.  The problem is I have much too much and will have to think about down sizing at some point.  However, my vintage pieces have always received compliments from others who appreciate special finds!

Going to have to take a pass this time... Nothing against thrift store finds or decor, but the roughly 30 minute length of this video is a bit much... Maybe I'll check it out later...

I use to love Thrift Store finds and spending the day looking for them. Between working, my family, and house upkeep...I honestly lost interest due to NO Time. Maybe one day I will get back into it.

Wow, @queendiva ,   only another thrift lover could empathize with the triumph you must have felt with such fab scores, ha.  I bet they do look wonderful.  The thrill of the hunt!

I've felt pretty deprived at not making the rounds of late of my favorite places.  I noticed just a couple of days ago that the sort of "antique mall" we have in our town was finally open again and happily flying its flag.   Haven't gone yet, but can't wait to hit it again.  More times than not, I come home without buying (unless it's a vintage book, maybe) but I can spend a full hour looking, and soaking in the atmosphere of old things!

@Oznell  Thank you for this. I will look her up on YouTube. I love to watch transformations whether it's furniture and household items, or beauty makeovers. Have a nice day.

Thanks, @Mimi 1883 -- you do the same!  Agreed, it can be fun to see what others come up with, things I'd never have thought of!

Another Youtuber you might like, a very creative and pleasant blogger, is "The Painted South".   She works all kinds of interesting transformations on the thrifted items she loves to hunt for.  I love the painted effects she did with that bunny decor in this video:
