I have the $150.00 Rowenta iron and there is nothing to take off where you fill it, just a hole in the top of the handle.  So hypothetically the bug could have gone down that hole.  I haven't used mine since I had a severe leaking problem a couple months ago.  The ironing basket is still full, obviously I have a lot of clothes and keep putting this task off.  I think its time to go back to the cheap irons and just keep replacing them like the old days.
