Craftmatic Adjustable Beds....Anyone know about these

I am considering getting a new bed at some point in the future.  I went to my localSleep Number  bed store and their adjustable bed was in the 5K range.  I always see these craftmatic adjustable bed commericals.  I did search reviews but I wonder if you can share any comments or information you have heard or know about this item.

thanks!!!!

Re: Craftmatic Adjustable Beds....Anyone know about these

Stay away!  They don't support their products but for a few years.  My grandmother got one back in 2002.  The company went out of business/got bought out a few years later.  We found this out when we tried to replace the remote that stopped working.  They wouldn't replace the remote but wanted us to buy the whole motor to replace just the remote.  The motor was fine, but apparently, you can't just replace a part.  They wanted around $400 or so back then.  I can't imagine what they want now.  There are many companies that do adjustable beds. My sister did some research into this when they upgraded their king bed.  They bought an adjustable bed by Serta.  The price was reasonable and had replaceable parts that were available.  They've had it about 5 years now without issue. Far longer than granny had her Craftmatic.  With Sleep Number, you are getting way more than just an adjustable bed, so there is NO comparison to a Craftmatic.  Assess your needs for support from the actual mattress, then see if the company offers adjustable bed frames for that mattress, most do these days.  If you go for a split king, you will need special bed sheets due to the split down the middle.  Or you could get sewing and made some modifications to regular bed sheets.

Just research from reliable vendors like Sams Club and Costco plus local mattress shops.  QVC does offer them as well, but returning could be problematic depending upon brand. You may be able to buy the adjustable frame but use a regular mattress of your choosing like a latex mattress or memory foam from a local store.  There are some great latex/memory foam mattresses out there for great prices at Sam's, Costco, even WalMart that get great reviews.  Just read the reviews.  Don't forget about Overstock and the good ole' Amazon.

Re: Craftmatic Adjustable Beds....Anyone know about these

Back in 1999, my dear dad had a sleep number bed; when he passed, I inherited it and loved it (king).  Very recently, I had a total shoulder replacement and it was recommended sleeping on a recliner which I did for months.  After getting tired of sleeping on that, I attempted to go back to sleep in our sleep number bed but had trouble.

We decided because of its age and wear, to shop at our local sleep number store for one with adjustable base.  Unfortunately, our sales person was very pushy and each time we found one we thought we may like, we were pushed into buying because "today the sale ends".  We were also told that while the mattress (bed) is a trial for 100 nights, the adjustable frame WAS NOT returnable - what?  That's the biggest expense and they won't take it back.  The name of the company that makes the adjustable frame is Leggett and Platt and the sales person said they will not take it back - if it doesn't work out, try to sell it on ebay - yeah, right.  They also make you pay $200 for them to come out and set up the adjustable frame.  You have no choice.

We left the store frustrated and when we got home, I decided to take a look on Q's site to see what they had. We  ended up finding a very similar one for $1500 less than the store, plus it said on the description that the adjustable frame was returnable as well and no set up fees.  At the time, they offered 6 easy pays which does help.

Now I will say they are not cheap, depending on what you get, sizewise, etc.  We didn't opt for any of the fancy extras.  But we felt secure in knowing how much we loved sleeping on the previous bed we had for many years, so we ordered it.

As for sheets, since ours is a split king (we each have a remote to adjust the head/foot part) we ended up buying extra long twin sheets for about $35.00 rather than paying the 3 digit priced sheets they sold at the sleep number store (they got bad reviews on Q's website).

All 8 boxes arrived very quickly by UPS (you must sign for it) and DH had it all put together within about 4 hours.  There really was no need for anyone to come out and pay them $200 as the instructions were easy.

The bed is very comfortable and we are not sorry we invested the money into it.  It's also quiet  when doing the adjusting.

I wish you much luck and hope my information may be of help to you.

Re: Craftmatic Adjustable Beds....Anyone know about these

Hi, I just bought a Sealy Hybrid Copper 11. a month ago from a store in the Pittsburgh area.I bought the adjustable base also. I could not use my rails with this wanting one that I could adjust.I have a queen size, I also am a widow, but the whole bed moves, head or feet. I love it. It was delivered free, but I paid $20.00 recycle fee. The total price for mine was $2, 542.93. I also bought a mattress protector againt any thing soiling the mattress which was $79.99 included in the price,, this protects you in case you want to return the mattress. In return I have a $100.00 reward vouchers for 3 well known places of buisness. This was the second step down from the higest priced mattress, and I felt it was fine for me. My son has the high priced one and he likes mine better.

Two years ago we bought a Temperpedic adjustable frame and I think a Sealy mattress and we love it.  No problems and very comfortable.  Total cost was somewhere around $3000.

There are all diffferent brands you could look at. When I am ready i am going to look into a serta. They seem to be priced well comlared to other brands. Some of the stores will even have own brands that are made well.

Re: Craftmatic Adjustable Beds....Anyone know about these

We are planning to buy an adjustable bed through Costco.  If you are a member that is probably the best way to go.  They mattress and base average around 2700 for both, no shipping cost and free returns if you are not happy.Go to the Costco website and read the reviews  There are a few negative ones but mostly positive.  My brother in law purchased an adjustable bed thru a local retailer.  They bought a firm against the recommedation of the clerk and had to get rid of it because they were both in pain from trying to sleep on it.  Cost was 8000!!!   They kept the base and bought another mattress for over 1200 and threw away the first one.  Very poor shopping and expensive.
