Re: Covering for a single French Door

I'm a big fan of sheers and expansion/tension rods. They fit inside the frame and require no nails. My other favorite "no nail" hanger is The Command line of hooks and hangers. They come in all colors (I prefer the clear) and weight limits.

I would avoid a Roman shade because they are complicated. Blinds are heavy and if you use this door often might become problematic.

There are all types of valances and light filtering panels on the market. I always search BBB and Altemerers or Country Curtains just to see what's there.

Covering your french door is a personal choice and would have to appeal to your personal taste.  What I would use would not be the same as another person.  I would use tiny curtain rods at the top and the bottom of the glass area and hang a gathered sheer panel between the two rods.  But that is my taste!

Re: Covering for a single French Door

@Bird mama I have never heard of a steel door......Do you live in a cold place? ( I'd forgotten about contact paper...)

I have French Doors that open out....old/used.....I never use them. When the place I live in was remodeled we bought a lot of used stuff...... ugh, now I wish we hadn't. It was originally an old barn.... I have the doors covered in dark/black out curtins for heat control. Don't use that area.

I live in Michigan @cbrite and we have steel, wood and fiberglass doors available to us.  There may be more kinds but I have no idea, lol.

My front door is so old it was made by Stanley, product when they made doors in the USA.  It's white and looks like a regular old door.  Magnets just stick to it Woman Very Happy

@cbrite, steel doors are a code requirement in many municipalities (new construction or replacement exterior doors). My glass patio sliders have steel construction in the frame as well. It has nothing to do with how cold the climate is in the area....it's a code requiremement because of fires, etc.

Here is another option to cover a french door - you can now get a shade that attaches to the door (you can get this add Lowe's, HomeDepot or Wayfair).

Re: Covering for a single French Door

What a great post and such fantastic suggestions!

I have two french doors that go from my kitchen into our four season room.  The glass is double glass an it's gotten hazy in between the glass.  We tried to see if we could remove the trim and be able to remove the glass to clean it, but there was insulation on the sides, etc. and we got scared and put everything back together again and have left it as is now for a few years.

I hate that it looks like I have windows that are dirty and need to be washed.  It's looks fine most of the day, but the mornings it looks bad.

I was thinking of calling a glass professional to get suggestion; however, some of the ideas on this post have really got my interest.

Thanks @jellyBEAN for posting and everyone else for their great ideas!!

This seems like a possibility for me cause it looks easy.  I must make a visit to Lowes.  The Lowes near me NEVER has anyone working in the blinds/shades area.  There is a desk there for someone to work at, but its always vacant.  If these came in some other colors that would be a plus.  I have white blinds on my windows (lots of 'em) and I would like something on the door that's a bit different than the white.  But if its easy to install, I'd get them.  Thanks everyone.
