@AnikaBrodie

None of her four daughters live with her.  One is still in college and the others are also scattered up and down the length of California.  Interestingly, when DH and I downsized 12 years ago, she liked my living situation so much that she downsized as well.  At this point, they are actually UPsizing. She said that they miss having a backyard..... when they have time to use a backyard is a puzzlement to me!

Carpe Diem.  Home is where the heart is.  When, if not Now?  Is the whole family traveling together?  Making memories and instilling in their children the "Smallness and connectedness of the world?  A house is a thing. A family history and bonding memories will last those kids their whole lives.  So, yeah.

This post made me think of one of my former co- workers. We got her a tee shirt that said  “ I’m so busy, I don’t know whether I found a rope or lost my horse .” She had a horse which made it even better. 😻

I’ve known a few people like that, and they make me feel like a hermit. I relish settling into a new home and arranging everything. If I had to leave the next day to travel,

My mind would be back at home deciding where to put this and that, and I’d be counting the minutes till I’m back home again. Homebody .....that’s me.

I don’t think it matters what anyone else thinks. To each her own. People often ask us if we are doing a lot of traveling in retirement. No! In my career, I practically lived on airplanes and in hotel rooms across the country and in Europe. And my husband and I travelled a lot, too. I definitely felt comfortable anywhere, but I was soooooooo glad to retire early and stay home. To me, packing a suitcase means work. Airplanes? Not if I can avoid it.

No, I couldn’t do it, because the only thing that’s important to me is right here around me.   I have absolutely NO interest in the physical effort of traveling anywhere in the world, or seeing anything beyond my corner of WV.   I can google everything and see a picture of it on my iPad, and that’s good enough for me; saves lots of money, I don’t have to be outdoors (which I hate), don’t have to deal with finding food I can eat, and I don’t have to be around other people.

An organized life is an enriched life. Of course she is able to move in and leave on a trip the next day. I'd even guess her home is live-in ready for their return. I don't understand comments of taking weeks or months to unpack following a move. We were completely settled within a day or two of each move. She and her husband are making memories, which is much more important than sitting at home! Sounds like a happy couple who get the most out of their lives and believe "home is where the heart is" adage. I'd like both of them very much for their enthusiam in life and committment to their marriage.

You sound like the extreme version of me.  I feel that way sometimes, then get the bug to travel, but when I return home I feel like I never want or need to leave again.... and then eventually the wander lust does come over me again.  Still, I like traveling in short spurts, with lots and lots of home time in between.  Oh, and I'm not a fan of the outdoors.  DH says he could save a lot of money and get me window shades that look like different settings.... one day I could be in Hawaii, the next in Cape Cod, the next in Alaska and I'd never have to leave the house.  I actually think it's a great idea!

When does she have time to be a social worker?

@Leggett28

She works in my school district.  She's on summer break right now.
