The Realtors will hunt you down. My dad had a condo in a very desirable area of his town. People would drive through and stop anyone outside and ask if they were thinking of selling. Well, when my dad died it was eerie how fast the Realtors found out and started leaving cards in the door, calls on his phone. Weird. They must scour the obituaries.

This type of marketing/advertising by Realtors is a traditional and nothing-new sign of the times. It is a signal that homeowners should consider themselves lucky to be holding an asset that other people would like to buy.
It has been widely reported for the past couple of years that housing inventory in many parts of the country is far below the supply of buyers who want to buy.
Homeowners should worry when too many homes are for sale, and the last thing many experienced Realtors want is another home listing that they have to spend time and money trying to sell when no buyers are available.
I realize many people reading these forums have not lived through some of the severe ups and downs of the real estate market that have occurred in recent decades.
These are the good times in many places. Bad times could and probaby will come again someday. Enjoy the good times while they last, and don't get annoyed when agents are looking for homes to sell. They have ready, willing and able buyers waiting to buy them from you, in many cases.

@muffininmilton wrote:Sometimes realtors read death notices and then match names to addresses and phone numbers. They can find elderly homeowners by purchasing a census book from town hall. After my father passed away we got a few calls.
When my father passed away I got a notice from a realtor with pictures of the outside of the house telling me this is what the listing would look like.
Phone calls, I don't know, I had his phone shut off and didn't have the calls forwarded to mine.

When we lost our new home because the 60 day contingency was up , we took our current house off the market. No exaggeration - we had about 100 cold calls from realtors who thought we had dropped our realtor because we didn't like him.
We still get calls from realtors saying they have a buyer for our house and want to show it.When we say it is no longer on the market they demand to know why - I usually say that's none of your business - because it isn't.

Realtors have to be on the assertive side to make any money. They do not get paid hourly or get a salary. They work 100% on commission and they must pay their own business expenses.
They could go months without a closing and not get paid a dime even though they are showing homes, holding open houses, etc.
It’s an aggressive business.

I get those very week. The one I got yesterday said, "DON'T THROW THIS AWAY". So I immediately dropped it in the shredder. ![]()

I NEVER answer my phone if I don't recognize the number. If it's important, they can leave a message. The "call block" button on my phone is my friend. ![]()

My sister in law is a realtor. She has a list of people who want to buy. Not enough houses in our area. Medium price houses are what they are looking for.

Years ago, I was a realtor and once a month we'd make cold calls from the office. I worked for Century 21. I wasn't comfortable calling - and it's a shot in the dark. Sometimes realtors have other people call for them. The realtor is looking for a listing -- and there are always buyers out there. Usually, they don't have buyers who want specific houses/areas - they just say that.
Today, u never know who's calling --- it could just be someone who wants to check out ur house - or has other motives. NEVER do business with strangers over the phone. If ur interested in getting information about ur house or other houses, call a local realtor or ask family/friends for a referral.
