I've used Dawn for grease/oil stains for years...just rub a little in, then either throw it in the hamper or straight into the wash. Works beautifully either way! It even took salad dressing out of a white cotton knit. And I use cold water!
Years ago, DH was working on his tractor and came in with his jeans just covered in black grease...I laid them out on the floor and squirted Dawn all over them, then rubbed it in with my hands til it turned white. Tossed them in the wash and they came out great!

Forgot to mention that I use Dawn to clean my makeup brushes.

Dawn has been my go to for greasy/oily stains for quite some time. It removed the stain without altering the color of the garment. I always have a bottle at the ready. It's also good for cleaning makeup brushes and beauty blenders that have been used for foundations and bb/cc creams.

I use Lestoil, dabbed on oil stains right from the bottle before washing and this has always taken the stains out.

I recently posted about this item that I use---an Oxi-Clean Gel dispenser. It's easy to dab on a clothing stain and then throw the clothing item into the wash basket for later. Works great.

I love blue Dawn for kitchen use. Never thought of it for clothes, but probably works just as well.
The blue gel and the blue liquid Dawn might contain some of the same ingredients........who knows??? The gel is just easy and maybe less messy to use on a spot than a liquid detergent might be.
Whatever works!!

I just use whatever detergent I have on hand to spot treat.
I've used that Oxi treatment and it's very good, but it's just something else I have to remember to purchase.
Yeah I'm that bad off.
I'm retired on a budget and I only buy the necessities.
Putting a drop of detergent on the stain has always worked.
