Cleaning, is it on a schedule, or an 'as needed' basis?

When and how do you clean your home? Are you on a rather set schedule (like laundry on Monday, dust on Tuesday, floors on Wed........) or do you simply do what needs done, when it seems to need doing?

When I had a small child and more pets, there was more mess, I was on more of a schedule and many things needed done more often. I still have things that get done routinely (floors and bathrooms daily) but others that don't need done as often or as routinely (dusting, laundry).

So are you really regimented with what gets done, on what days and how frequently, or are you more of a 'winging it' housekeeper, and base it on changing needs? Has your approach changed based on children, jobs, retirement, age/ability etc.?

I'm retired - but every day I make my bed (I like looking down the hall to a well put together bedroom) - and clean the kitchen.  The laundry and major cleaning gets done when I feel like it.  Like today, polished all furniture, vacuuming.  Yesterday I felt like doing laundry.  So, as I feel it, I do it.  When I worked I had more of a schedule.

I do things more as needed than a set schedule, as I have several physical issues to work around. There are chores I do daily, and since DH and I don't leave a mess anywhere, the house usually looks pretty nice.

We've pared down a ton the past few years, as well as made things as "user friendly" as possible where ever we could. Our homekeeping is much simpler now, and that keeps things easy to  maintain. pinky

I clean and do laundry when it needs doing.  I tried to have a schedule but I didn't really like it because sometimes the laundry needed doing on a different day than my scheduled day to do it. Same thing for cleaning.

I have a house keeper who comes every 2 weeks, so that is when the major cleaning gets done. However, of course, there are things that have to be done in between. Every day I tidy up, clean the bathrooms and kitchen and make the bed. The hard floors need swept daily, and I vacuum about 2 to 3 times a week. The trash gets collected Fridays so every thursday DH empties all the trash cans and I replace the liner bags. Yesterday DH exploded something in the microwave so that was major cleaning chore. I dropped pizza in the oven and got sauce on everything so that too was a big mess to clean several days ago. Even though I have help with the housework I still seem to keep busy keeping after things.I used to do the laundry on Mondays but now that is my volunteer day so I do the laundry on Sundays. I try very hard to not schedule anything else for sundays so I can get it done and out of my way for the week.

Since I work full time and then some, I try to do some laundry at night, but otherwise, everything is done on the weekends - laundry, cleaning, errands, gardening.  I make my bed, clean the kitchen and dishes, and wipe down the bathroom everyday so it is always tidy and neat.

When I was working I worked 7 days a week and may have had any day off so nothing was ever scheduled, and , honestly, it was much more of a mess than it is now. We had dogs then too and , much as I loved them, they do make a mess. Crumbs everywhere, muddy paws and dog toys all over the place. One of our dogs loved to go into trash cans and carry out crumpled papers and kleenex and leave them around the house.

only thing that is on a schedule as such is Saturday, change bedding and do laundry. All else is on a need to do basis. Just did a lot before our company coming for the next couple of months.

Mine is on a schedule. I clean some each day & start all over on Monday. Since I'm finished dusting & cleaning I need to get off the computer & vacuum & mop. My habits have not changed over the years. When I was working that's how I had to clean. I would not have got it all done if I did not do some daily. Everyone says I'm a clean freak. Who knew? I just keep house as my mom did. Did not know that was being a clean freak. I'm not in a good mood if the house is not clean.

Re: Cleaning, is it on a schedule, or an 'as needed' basis?

I am retired.  I do Laundry on Monday and pretty much maintain that schedule.  Floors, Dusting and Vacuuming is done on Thursday or Friday but my schedule does not always permit that schedule due to other priorities.  I clean my kitchen daily and the other rooms weekly, or on an as needed basis.
