Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

I don't, but I recommend as others have, that you should do what makes you happy.  Our home should be a place where we feel happy and safe.  I decorate my small home with things I want to look at!

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

I haven't put up a tree in years.  A few years ago I got rid of the big tree and all the decorations that went with it.

We have beautiful urns with juniper like greenery and lights, lovely mantle garlands, etc.  I have some beautiful Christmas figures.

What seems to give me the most joy of all my Christmas decorations is a beautiful nativity.  This goes on one side of the fireplace and a hand made village that I bought some 40 years ago goes on the other.

We also had a lovely outdoor nativity but we had several thefts from the manger including Baby Jesus so we just stopped putting it out.  We know who the thieves are.

Do what makes you happy.  There are no rules.  LM

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

Just as the others have said, I would put up a tree if you enjoy doing it and looking at it while it is up.  There have been years when I didn't want a tree up, but put it up anyway and in the end was glad I had.

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

I also live alone and I do not put up a tree or decorations. I do, however, put lights on outside of my home around the shrubs and trees. I enjoy looking at them when I return home.  Lights go on after Thanksgiving and I remove them right after New Years Day.

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

I'm not putting one up, I am married. I will decorate my fireplace, and put wreaths on my french doors. Probably put some decor in  kitchen dining area and call it good.

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

I am 68 years old. My husband passed away 4 years ago. It is just me and my 5 cats and I put up 3 trees.  I have my main 61/2 foot tree.  I have my 5 foot white flocked tree and a 4 foot tree in the hall.  I love it.  I can sit and listen to my Christmas cd's and look at my tree and decorations.  Is it a pain? Yes, going out to the shed and carrying all the totes in. But the end result is so worth it.  I love every minute of it.  I hope I keep that joy every year because if I don't , I might as well be dead.  I love the true reason for the season and thank God every day for everything he has given me.  I also love the Santa side of it and love watching my kids and grandkids open their gifts.  I love baking cookies and taking them to neighbors.  It is all magicial.

Re: Christmas Tree when you live alone

I mostly live alone and still put up some kind of tree. Typically these days, it's a table top tree and once in a while I'll put up the big tree, though I suspect that's now a thing of the past. Usually, a few friends and family will see the tree, but I mainly do it for myself. I most certainly don't go 'all out' to decorate the tree or anything else as I did in days gone by, but still acknowledge the season. Every year, though, I do consider not doing a tree and I haven't yet decided whether I will or I won't this year. There's nothing wrong with putting up a tree for one's own pleasure. On the other hand, if it doesn't bring you pleasure, then why bother. Find some other way to observe the season that doesn't require quite as much of a commitment.

@OhioAngel: I say, put up your tree if you want to. It doesn't matter if you're alone. Enjoy the season!
