Choosing Artwork for Specific Rooms

Here is a dining space that has been spruced up by adding art to break up the neutral palette.

Here is a close up view of the painting.

Do you think this choice works well for a dining room, or if this were your cherished artwork, would you hang it in another room?

Why?

It's a conversation piece for sure.  Nothing wrong with that.  Not my style, but I like.

I wouldn't hang it in the dining room - maybe a family room or living room. It just seems out of place to me.

I don't like it for a Dining Room wall, but maybe a rec room...

No.  For me, the picture doesn't match the decor.  It's completely out of its element here.

It does not work in the dining room because the hanging fixture blocks it.  You need another picture on that wall that is not blocked by the dining fixture.  This picture would look good in a very large bathroom or the family room.

The whole room looks stark and cold.  The painting belongs in a rec room.

To me, art isn't about decorating.  It is a personal choice that should be hung where you enjoy it.

So if this person really likes this piece, hang it there!  It's fine.  Art isn't like a lamp or a pillow.  It should always have meaning to its owner.

It so doesn't fit, perhaps in a family room

It might be a Dining area that looks out on to the pool.

I totally agree that art is personal and they probably love the fun they have in their pool which would make it the perfect choice for them.
