I wouldn't have been comfortable going to work while a chipmunk ran amok in the house. Oh well, I guess some people learn to live with mice, so why not Chip 'n Dale.

Seriously, call your local Animal Control or Animal Services.
They should get someone over quickly w/ a trap.
I just recently called my Animal Services to inquire about adoption hours and one of the push button options was "if a small rodent is inside your home, press '3'", so I know it's an option.
It's an 'option' with Animal Control - but pressing '3' (as with your area) provides the same info the OP got here! They basically advise you to contact an exterminator.

Luckily they were on because that's what kept him from getting out. A company came and got him out. I probably wouldn't have known, but the cats were acting weird and I heard them growling.
I had raccoons too! What an ordeal getting them removed. And then reparing all their damage too - it was $$$ ! Home ownership is a royal pain sometimes!

If this little rodent spends much time inside your home, I am sure your opinion will change. He or she will chew the plastic on TV wires and cables, lamp and refrigerator cords, toasters, and coffee pots down to bare wire, They love to chew on rugs, carpets, bedding, and will even chew holes to get inside your box spring and mattress, not to mention destroy clothing inside dresser drawers.
Ground squirrels are very destructive inside a home. Finding themselves inside a new environment, the ground squirrels first instinct will be to find a place to hide, a food and water supply.

Yes , please call a professional, they are so destructive, even though cute. They will chew everything not to mention like rodents they carry disease. Worms and ticks among others. Please use caution , they bite. YES I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE, living in the country and french doors do not mix. I learned the hard way when a chipmonk chewed my wiring in the house to the well, ,good luck .. not to scare you but the wiring was so chewed the repair man said he was surprised it didnt spark a fire.
Here in NM the fleas on ground squirrels, chipmunks and prairie dogs are responsible for several cases of blubonic plague every year.
