Man in Kokomo, IN lost his entire house when his dehumidifier caught fire - just checked mine and it is among the recalled items.  They offer to replace or send you a check for $90+.  You have to take pics of model no and show you have cut the cord so you can no longer use it.  There are millions out there - please check your unit and make sure you do not have one in your home.

You must be in hot climate cuz we here in cold country and using HUMIDIFIERS - our air is warm and so dry.

@fthunt - actually, Indiana.  The man evidently ran his humidifier 24/7 all year long - I run mine only in the summer.  Still, it's really scary to think I've had this humidifier a year and ran during the day when I worked or was out of the house.  Scary that it has taken them so long to figure this out - models are 2003 - 2013.
