Re: Certainly inexpensive accommadations

To each, their own but I don't want to vacation the same months, on the same schedule, to the same destination, year after year.

No matter the cost.

I can't possibly imagine camping. There is nothing about it I would enjoy.  It is good that we have different options for all of our different likes and dislikes.  I would rather have a shorter stay in a nice hotel than a lot of time in a camper.

"Campers" today are every bit as nice as most hotel rooms I have been in lately (including LA and Scottsdale).  Plus you have your own pillow and bedding (no bed bugs), a nice kitchen, easy access to laundry facilities, no crowded elevators, and no extra "resort fees" and taxes.  The OP can walk out her door and see beautiful scenery and breathe fresh air.  Wonderful!

I have done a lot of camping and traveling in my lifetime, but now I vacation at our own lakehouse.  I don't mind going to the same destination every year because I know it is lovely, the people who live here are happy here, and I am content with the memories I have of seeing the world.

Re: Certainly inexpensive accommadations

Do they have showers and real bathroom facilities rather than those chemical toilets?  I could stand camping if I had a decent RV to sleep in and bathroom facilities.  I went camping and literally almost lost my mind.  I couldn't believe we were going to spend days sitting and sleeping on the ground.  I can't imagine why anyone would voluntarily do this.  A nice RV is so much better than a tent on the hard ground with no running water or modern toilets.

Enjoy your little piece of paradise!  It sounds fabulous.

Re: Certainly inexpensive accommadations

There are different types of camping. I enjoyed the OP's thoughts. It's not for everyone certainly but, I think the type of camping in the camper the OP speaks of sounds really great. I just wish I could talk my DH into something like this after retirement in about 1 year from now.

It would be a dreadful world to live in of everyone loved doing the same things. Heart

I should have known. . . Forgive me for not thinking about who started the post. . . My bad.  Yes, I should have known.

@151949  Do you get full hook ups for $17,?  If so, that's pretty cheap for an RV park.

And you need us to know this why?  It's great you love camping and love being frugal but im not sure why you go on and on about it. It sounds dreadful to me.

I think it sounds lovely, to live in a pretty place like that for part of the year. My only drawback is that they do stay put for that $50 a day, and that comes out to about $1500 per month.

Everyone has a different budget, but that is pretty high to stay in one place. It isn't like you are traveling and seeing the country and all kinds of cool places for that kind of money. You are basically paying high end rent (for that part of PA) to stay in a camper. Nothing wrong with the lifestyle, just isn't really what I'd call 'cheap'.

Re: Certainly inexpensive accommadations

151949, A wonderful friend of mine had a I would guess a 70 ft. mobile home that they actually had it parked on a river lot. Some how they had in door plumbing connected to it.  It has all the comforts of living in theiw own home away from home. Many weekends spent with them at the river every night a beautiful fire to sit by. They built their own picnic shelter so meals could be eaten out doors at the table even if it was pouring down rain. Lawn chairs lined the river bank and we could watch all the people out on their boats riding or water skiing. They have a boat so if we want out on the water we can do that also. The one part that is so nice is the people you meet at the river all very friendly there to relax and have a good time. Heck they even have a regular phone line plus their cell phones. There is everything there that a person could want. Never saw anyone who could do canning on a Webber Grill but bushels of tomatoes were done on that grill. We would laugh when this lady would decide to do some fancy tough cooking and would be cooking on that grill in the middle of the night some of the others campers would stroll over and she would be sitting by her fire and they would want to know what fantastic item was she cooking or baking at that hour of the night. So many great memories of being at the river with these people would want to never ever. forget one good time. For years these were the best summers and in the fall it was time to close up for the winter and rake all leaves that fell from the big trees but the good times went on till the snow started to fall. Glad you two are making great memories.
