Certainly inexpensive accommadations

[ Edited ]

My DH & I were just figuring out what we feel it costs us to stay here at the campground - not counting the price of the camper but just the site it sits on we pay about $17 a night - add in the camper - everything including insurance and  reasonable depreciation and the site rental it costs us about $50 a night. Still way less than the least expensive hotel. We have laundry facility, a game room for kids and an olympic size pool. We get to sit out side on our patio and enjot the beautiful mountains that surround us here and the shade from the gorgeous mapel, elm and oak trees - not usually available at a hotel. If we feel like going into town for dinner it is a 1 mile drive , if we feel like eating at home we can easily do that. Shopping is a short walk into town  where it is set up like a historic villiage and we can go antiquing or to an old fashion weavers shop , a tin metal shop, a museum store an old bakery and just for fun a store that sells 1960's style hippie stuff. I can't possibly imagine it would be any niceer to stay in a hotel - and would cost a whole heck of a lot more.

I did not even mention our site has an outdoor fireplace for our campfires and a nice shady picnic area right off our back door. Even a parking spot that is large enough to accommadate the car and the golf cart. DH & I stay in hotels a lot on our trips back & forth from Florida and I can tell you from experience - it is a lot nicer to have a camper for vacation.

Re: Certainly inexpensive accommadations

My husband and I talk about doing this one day, after we retire.  I wonder how hard is it drive a camper, though.  Maybe it is easier than I think.

You have to do your research, and you have to go to the dealers and test drive several different ones. There are everything from van conversions to huge motorhomes. We started out years ago with a pop up tent camper - inexpensive and easy to tow with a car.You are sleeping under a tent inside - and they now come with showers and toilets - but you have a hard floor with real beds to sleep on.We always say we would like to get another one and tour the country. Then we went to a trailer then a couple fifth wheels and now we are in a park model - which since we actually live in here 5 months of the year - we went for larger and a little more luxury than we normally would. There is always a balancing act between budget, what you want to do in it - travel or park it somewhere - the driver's skill levell if towing it - how rough do you want to go. You can spend a few thousand for a used pop up or $100,000 or more for a luxury motorhome. My first marriage we went on our honeymoon in a truck camper and toured all around Canada. We had a ball. Had a run in with some bears -- Oh to be 20 again.

I can't possibly imagine camping. There is nothing about it I would enjoy.  It is good that we have different options for all of our different likes and dislikes.  I would rather have a shorter stay in a nice hotel than a lot of time in a camper.

And you need us to know this why?  It's great you love camping and love being frugal but im not sure why you go on and on about it. It sounds dreadful to me.

@GenXmuse...because it is something she and her husband enjoy and possibly others might be interested in the costs involved...nothing any different than other posts on this board.........

Because some of you are not interested in this subject does not mean NO ONE is interested.  When I am not interested in a thread I just go past it - why must we constantly have to tolerate all the negative answers to any post ?
