I have cellular shades in my master bedroom and master bathroom.  They were very expensive.  Having said that if/when I replace them I will not buy cellular unless they redesign them to open/close differently.

@AnikaBrodie  How do yours open and close?  Do you have cords, no cords.. just push up and pull down or motor operated with a remote control or something else?

It seems like there is still a variety of choices and preferences when it comes to window coverings.

Bottom line is they are ALL EXPENSIVE.

We have plantation shutters and wide wood blinds.  I like the option of being able to adjust the slates.

The wood blinds started at $165 a window

The plantation shutters were $1000+ a window

Ugghhh.

Until you add curtains/sheers $$$$$

@Abrowneyegirl The cost of plantation shutters is very variable. Size of windows - what style you buy - open from side or center , divided top & bottom or one continuous - and the material you buy - they come in various woods and plastics. Also - painted or not.We chose divided top & bottom  so we can close the bottom for privacy but have the top open for light. We wanted bright white that would not yellow in the Fl. sun so we were advised to get a resin material that is what they make football helmets from. They certainly do seem durable, and have not yellowed in almost 8 years. For 6 windows - 2 sets of double and then 2 single, all about 6 ft high, plus the honeycomb cellular shade for the slider we paid $3400. My DH was upset at me for spending this much but now that we have them we know we wouldn't want to go back to curtains, shades or blinds. Shutters are more appropriate for controling the Florida sun.

@151949. I agree with you that window coverings come in all different price ranges.  If you buy cheap, you get cheap. You get what you pay for.

you also need to consider the weather and light coming through your windows. I like plantation shutters, but they are not the best for PA Windows. If I had a sun room, i’d  Use them for sure.

i love my cellular slider shade too.

When we had our camper up in Pa. it had cellular shades and I truely hated them.We had a 3 window bay floor to ceiling on the west side where there were no shade trees and in the afternoons it was very hot in that area. Those blinds did nothing to prevent that hot afternoon sun coming in. Eventually we purchased some of those paper and insulation shades for your car windshield and cut them to fit that window. We adhered them to the window with painter's tape and then closed the blinds so you couldn't see them from inside. What a huge difference having something there to insulate made. Unfortunately this solution to the problem wasn't very attractive from the outside.

@151949  I didn't know about the side-to-side cellulars, so I'll check those out.  I know I'm not doing plantation shutters because I did those in my summer apartment (ordinary windows) and as far as I'm concerned, there're not worth all the effort required to keep them dust-free.  Also, way too heavy to raise and lower to control the light.  I love the look, but not really the shutters.

Also, I'm not doing drapes.  I lived through the drapes, the valances, and swags, etc.  For me, they're over and done.  I want my window treatments as simple as they can be.  And especially, as easy to care for as possible.  One think I know about being far over 55 is that nothing hard to take care of makes my life better!

I have them on all the windows in the house. Some are push up only & some are push up or pull down. I have those on south windows so I can adjust sunlight if we are in a room & don't want it in our face without having to close it all the way. I like all the light coming in when they are open. I close them when it gets dark. I don't like fancy drapes or curtains with sheers.

My place is furnished with Hunter Douglas silhouette blinds. Cost us a bundle but they are heaven on earth! Strikingly beautiful and extremely functional.

My niece just had them installed in her house and she's far from the 55+ crowd.

She got the ones that can go up from the bottom or down from the top.
