I need to replace some carpet but want to use the same style/color so it matches the other areas. Anyone know any tricks to figuring out the brand/name/etc? tia

The only thing I'd suggest is to go back to the store where it was purchased, if known. Otherwise you're probably out of luck.

What I've learned through trial-and-error years ago that finding a carpet match is like trying to find a perfect match with navy blue clothing separates ... unless they were made at the same time with the exact same dye lot, you'll never get a match.
Either replace ALL the carpeting or find something that compliments what you have with throw rugs.
(Having learned my lesson, I kept an 8 foot roll of extra carpet when we got new carpet two years ago. Even if we never need it, I'm happy to store it, just in case.)

Same challenge with wood or Pergo flooring. Buy EXTRA in case you need a "patch" job. I found out the hard way, also.

Most things (carpeting, flooring, fabric, wallpaper, paint) have lot numbers. But trying to find something with the same lot number (so a perfect match) way down the road? Good luck with that.
Best option, if possible: take a small piece of the existing carpeting to compare, when shopping for a new replacement.

Unless the carpet is very new it will never match. I always have a large piece of carpeting given me when I buy new carpet. Within months the color is not the same. Carpet fades even if not in direct light. The only way you might get away with adding a piece is if the carpet has many colors in a design. Good luck

@ThinkingOutLoud And keep in mind that carpets, furniture, paint, wallpaper all change a bit once they are in use.
I just had some painting done - bought the same brand/color as I did just 2 years back. Already the company has changed its mix for that color a tiny bit. I didn't even notice until the painter did. In some lights, patches show.
Wishing you better luck with your carpet.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully I'll find something that will work.
