When I was in the store, this lemongrass scent smelled so good and clean.
I've burned it a couple of days and it is giving me a raging headache, so I have to snuff it out.
It's been used so I can't return it to the store.
Any recs as to what I can do with it now? Leave it open - place in the closet - anything?
It's not a cheapo line, either.

What brand?
I have been having that happen with Yankee. And I've burned Yankee all my adult life.
I think they are changing and cheapening many of the better lines of candles, to keep the price points down, and increase profit.
You have the right idea, it is only good for putting somewhere like a closet to freshen the smell there. I have used some like that to sit near the litter boxes in the basement.
I just started a lemon something candle from Swan Creek and while no head ache, really no throw.

Archipelago Botanicals is the brand. I have been purchasing their candles for years. My fave is Havana - great in the winter. A tobacco blend. Very mellow.
It may be the ingredients in this particular scent. At any rate, think I'll just keep the lid off and leave it out.

My only advice is to burn it outside on the deck, in the back yard, or if you have a screened in porch.
That's what I do with any candle that is gifted to me. Can't handle B&BW, Yanks, etc.
Everyone knows I only like PartyLite candles. I buy mine on ebay as my sales rep stopped selling (asthma!)
I can burn a lot of them at a time and have no issues other than delight.

I would chalk up the purchase as a loss and probably throw the candle out. I used to burn candles all the time but I read that they give off bad chemicals and give your home air pollution.
Soy and beeswax are preferred, if you do burn candles. But they can be expensive and hard to find.

I don't think there's a home for used candles...lol You give it to someone you know or you throw it away. I would say keep it as a decorator item but high quality candles often give off a scent even when you don't burn them. Sometimes I'll buy candle that has a scent that I simply don't care for but I have friends, daughters, sisters.....I always find someone who does like it.

I once bought two pillar candles from Target. Yes, I knew they were scented but thought they'd smell only when burning. Wrong! I put them on the mantel, never burned them, and they stunk up my entire condo with their sweet perfume-y smell. Just awful. I ended up wrapping them heavily in tissue paper and storing them on a shelf in the basement. A little stink still escapes but in the basement that's not an entirely bad thing. Since then, I only buy non-scented candles.

Yep, placed the lid on it and by golly, you can still smell it.
