LOVE the oversize antique globe!!  Am a sucker for globes anyway.   This is in a house called "Meadowmere", which I'm guessing is out on Long Island.

Shutters, and luxuriant rosy curtains to shut out blizzardy nor'easters!

Handsome drop-front desk, if you actually get in the mood to work.

This is by interior designers Carrier and Company.  They do great work.

In the same rambling house, they did this cool 'look-out' room.

Just b/c I've been in the mood for "compare and contrast" lately, here's another library that Carrier and Company did-- but it's in a tiny cottage:

Cute as a button, very English-influenced.  The historic cabin is called "Roosevelt Cottage",  and it definitely IS on Long Island,  East Hampton, I think.

Apparently it was a cottage on one of the huge Roosevelt estates.  I think the Franklin branch, not the Teddy, but not sure-- there didn't seem to be that much info on it.

It's been so lovingly restored by C and C--

The rope lamps are so 'eastern shore'--

Chintz curtains, twig table, books and baskets--

Charmingly simple dining room, but I think I read somewhere that the hutch had belonged to Bunny Mellon.

The bedroom is just the dreamiest...

Carrier and Company are very talented at capturing the spirit of a different age.

I love the library and the one with the kilim covered bench in front of the sofa. The others aren't my thing.

Re: COZY HOME LIBRARY

[ Edited ]

The library  does look cozy and cohesive.  I also love that globe!  Normally a library with all the walls as bookshelves leaves me feeling claustrophobic and it looks cluttered but I like that this one is not overdone with the bookshelves everywhere.  I love the lookout room but I'm not fond of the daybed/bench type seating.  The other house had some nice decor pieces throughout but it really lost me with all the shiplap.

Each room has some appealing elements and is, in its way, attracive but, for me, each of them just misses. Were I ever in the position to hire a high end design firm, this is probably not one I'd consider.

I like all of these rooms.  I like that the underlying idea is cozy cottage, but the idea has been streamlined and modernized.  I would hire this firm in a heartbeat.

Agreed, @Marsha2003  the Roosevelt cottage has captured an elusive, intriguing charm of past eras, while still seeming comfortable for today.  And boy, I'd love to know more of its history on the Roosevelt estate!

Re: COZY HOME LIBRARY

[ Edited ]

I like the warmth of the first library, but I'm not a fan of the pink furnishings or the artwork hanging in front of the books. I like the globe, tables, and lamps.

I really like the light and airy feeling of the Roosevelt cottage library. The colors, furnishings, and accessories appeal to me. 👍

We use our third bedroom as a library. We call it our "book room". It's fairly small, but we have 3 bookshelves, 2 recliners, a table with a lamp, and a stereo in that room. My guitar is also in that room, and I play it in there.

Nice room.  Love the two shiny metallic mirror-finish copper-brown lamps.  Like the globe, and also the view into the next room with the stone walls and arched windows.
