I caught this, along with the Texas bungalow video, and wanted to post b/c I thought the two houses made a fun contrast -- totally different from each other.
I like analyzing spaces that are not my style preference, but are well done, for the style they are.
This was designer Maria Killam's previous house, in which she did a collab with Ballard Designs, to refresh the smallish living-dining room.
Her favorite color is yellow, with orange being a close second. She seems to really like green, too.
A color specialist of long standing, she has always advocated, pick your couch in your favorite color, if you want to. You don't have to default to the favored neutral of the moment. Interestingly, trendy neutrals can be dated more readily. But as she says, pick what you like.. She said this couch is old, but has stood up well for years, interestingly.
She went with the yellow, dashes of deep green in the dining area, and with a lavender ceiling, lamp and painting. She said the lavender ceiling bleached out and did not show up well in the magazine feature photos, unfortunately.
The yellow carries into the dining room, in the upholstered leopard print backs of her dining chairs, and in the brass fixtures.
There's also lavender in the painting, echoing back to the lavender ceiling.
She said that her personal clothing color season is Spring, and I can definitely see that in her room palette. The colors are clear and bright, like a Spring's clothing and makeup typically is.
For me, I enjoy color that is "toned down", and more foggy, less saturated than hers-- it's funny, my house has more of the soft, chalky colors that a "Summer" like me, might wear.
Also, her decorating style is what I'd call "Transitional, Glam". It's a little flamboyant, as you can see from the animal print. I can also see Hollywood Regency, and the occasional shot of midcentury, as in the blonde Eames-style wood chair.
It seems to reflect her exuberant personality very well.
Oh-- this was really interesting, and I almost forgot! She chose what she has come to call, a "complex cream", for her wall color.
She has this whole criteria of what she dubs the complex cream paints, which all have different undertones. She says they are FAR more appropriate to most homes than stark white. She picked a complex cream for this room with faintest orange/yellow undertones, which complements the room's colors very well. The color is Sherwin-Williams "Casablanca".

Oops, error alert, apparently the Sherwin-Williams paint is "Casa Blanca", not Casablanca!

@Oznell I love the sofa and *most* of the pillows. I loathe anything in an animal print whether decor or clothing. Also that light fixture in the dining area is a big no for me. But I do like much of the decor.

I like the bright sunny yellows with green, white, and cream. My bedroom as a child and teen had those colors.
I wouldn't mind using those cheery & happy colors in my home, but my husband wouldn't like it. I like most of the furnishings and accessories. Love the dog! I'm not a fan of the leopard print pillows & chairs, and the chandelier in the dining room.
Have a Good Weekend, Everyone. Stay safe and warm.

I like the color scheme, the yellow couch and the cloth covered dining room chairs. The large windows are wonderful and I love the white fireplace, leafy green plants and the orchid.
I would choose something other than leopard print accents (chairs, pillows) and would switch out the chandelier.
I keep looking at the first picture, by the front door. I gather the bench/ottoman is strictly for show (?) Sitting, you would surely have your back against the second low hanging picture and would have to fight for space with the pillow.
Thank you for another marvelous posting @Oznell

The yellow entryway wall & window seat are adorable! I also love yellow & have decor similar to hers - a gold/yellow couch & loveseat with an animal print chair & ottoman & another chair in gold & brown stripe.

I agree with others about removing the leopard prints and the chandilier. I am not a fan of yellow, but the mango-like color by the front door would be appealing to me; I love any shade of mango, but yellow isn't something I would ever use myself. I like the wall colors and the ceiing color in lavender, I would have never thought of that. Leafy greenery always works for me.

I enjoy the look of her home. I might or might not make the same choices, but it all works together nicely and is pleasing to the eye.
