Well, most of the walls are off-white, but there's lots of color in accessories and furniture. The precious little photo-bombing dog you will see throughout, is "Lou".
This rental apartment belonging to Katelyn Sailor, is modern and vibrant, while the railroad flat was romantic and more muted. I find things to like in both.
Katelyn and husband took their time in transforming this rental space. First, they installed molding on the walls themselves, to add interest. Their landlord is pretty permissive, but he must like the stuff they do.
See the collage-like artwork in the entry above? Katelyn took much of her color inspiration from it. It's actually the cut-and-paste construction paper work of her little brother when in fifth grade. The kids were asked to make something based on a famous artwork, and her brother did his based on "Starry NIght".
Her brother died when he was only 14, and she was 20, so she has kept his framed art work with her, and feels boosted whenever she sees it. She supplied a photo of both of them before he died. How wonderful that so many people will now see his work...
The touching photo of the two of them-- the unbreakable bond of brother and sister.
The apartment has no dining room, so she incorporated one in the living space. I find her exuberant color palette in this case, to be fun, and not overbearing, even though it's a few degrees brighter than colors I use... Love those wavy candles on coffee table-- and the melting popsicles, ha.
Personally, as much as I like her entry-way art, I do not care for the mixed-media pink butterfly lady in here-- but to each his own. I like almost everything else, the rug, the pink and blue combos, the sunny little hits of mustard-y yellow in dining chairs and curtains.
Those tapestry-looking sofa throw pillows are the perfect touch. I like the sleek sconces-- just not the portrait! Oh, well.
Their frame TV is surrounded by art work reminders from their travels. But I can't remove my gaze from her two green and aqua Blenko glass decanters (or lookalikes) on console-- LOVE. Oh, and in this shot you can see the retro-looking "scoring" on one side of the coffee table's leg.
She said she wanted a little less going on in the bedroom, but it's still pretty eye-catching. I like the clean white of the bedding, with just the spark of 3 big colorful pillows and rug. The chandelier has delicate glass flower petals.
She picked a pretty candle warmer, (with the white scalloped shade) on dresser. She said it's a necessity, as she's been known to leave the house without blowing out candles. (I should get a candle warmer.) That gold 'face' vase is interesting too-- she has an eye for accessories that are harmonious with her style....
Maybe you can see them better here:
A treasured portrait bedside, of a previous doggy who is no longer with them. The fig tree and bouquet are real, while many other florals in apartment are faux.
I was very interested in the different elements that go together to make up her "soft modern" or "eclectic modern" style, like this swoop-arm chandelier from West Elm--
And this satisfyingly chunky coffee table from Anthropologie--
Close-up of one of those fabulous hand-tufted wool pillows--
The two-toned vase, twisty blossoms, the round pink candle, the huge vintage perfume bottle she picked up somewhere and perched here, love. Suspect that people here will NOT like the color-coordinated books-- I think they're fine, and fit with her 'casual theatricallity'. She found the mantel on Facebook marketplace-- in a later video, she showed how she had tiled the inside back of it on poster board, so it's not just blank white wall there.
Here's a later shot of the finished tiled back of the fireplace:
Things get moved around a lot-- I can relate to that! Feels like a cohesive and cheerful refuge from the city to me.

Oznell,
I always enjoy reading your posts. So interesting to see how others look at their space.

It's very happy and very quirky--am all about color pops but alot of "stuff" all over in there--- not a fan or those horrible mustard yellow chairs at the table--but the frenchie is adorable--I could go shopping and come home with some nice things for my place----

Of course, I love the puppy, but also love that she has her brother's picture framed. What a wonderful tribute to him.

This is just ghastly as far as I'm concerned. That's her style and her taste and so she likely enjoys it. I'd run screaming out the door. I do like the credenza, the night stand and the campaign style dresser. Otherwise, this place would be among my worst nightmares. Oh, and the dog is cute.

What a cute apartment! I think we've all been conditioned over the past 15-20 years to be so afraid of using color, but she's done it very cohesively in a way where it's not over the top and garish. It's a happy place and although probably not my style, I think I could live there for a bit.

I found this apartment quite interesting and extremely well balanced.
Katelyn has a good eye for using accessories in a way that isn't to the point of overdone IMO.
I do like the color she used on the walls, and enjoyed the elements of each room.
The use of her brother's painting is so touching.
Loved the blue and white vase on the snack table, the wood look end table next to the couch and everything on it, the comfortable white couch with those wonderful pillows and candles on the coffee table are perfect parings.
The mantel is beautiful and her clever placement of books and other elements perfect.
I really (gasp!) like the pattern and depth of color on the orange pillows on the bed.
Many thanks.

Not necessarily my style, but I like some of the things and I love color.
And her French Bulldog. 8)

Some thoughtful, interesting responses!
@shoptilyadropagain , I could be wrong, but I think another name for those loopy, maze-like ball pillows is "knot pillows". Agreed, they are fun. I kept seeing more things I wanted to examine too,
@Linda0215 , what you expressed is kind of how I see it. My color temperature may be a bit lower than hers, and I might be a little more spare in rooms, but her style is all of a piece, and 'makes sense' for her. It's joyful and sort of devil-may-care.
Speaking of happy colors, if anybody likes colorful, unusual candles, I think I'm going to do a post on some I found. Not like hers, exactly, but in that same eye-catching, playful mode...
