Re: CIJ--What do you collect?

I used to collect Santas and Snowmen, but  got rid of or don't use most of them anymore. That said, I still have several of each, but rather than display them as a collection, I used them separately in displays along with other things.

I seem to have more than three things of most Christmas items (one definition of a 'collection') so, if you want to look at it that way, finials, santas, snowmen, candles etc.  But I don't really see those things as collections.

What I do consider a collection is the sleigh full of various versions of "The Night Before Christmas" books, most of them vintage. I started collecting them when my son was little, as we read the story each Christmas Eve, just before bed. I have a really pretty metal sleigh that I set them in each year, and throughout the season, I actually do sit down and look at them. I have maybe 15 so far.

This made me chuckle.  That's how it seems to happen sometimes.

I collect tableware and especially love holiday themed patterns.  I also have a collection of Harry Slatkin luminaries from QVC/Bath & Body Works and a collection of Holiday Lane houses from Dept. 56 Snow Village.

old-fashioned/vintage looking santas - valerie's santa in the sleigh with the reinder is my absolute favorite decoration! great thread!

Hi Kel: Do you have Valerie's Santa and Reindeer from last year.I think the item number is H201179??  I looked at it but didn't get it last year but I see there are still some available.

I can't believe those are available. I received it as a gift, I think year before last, and I absolutely love mine (got the Santa and reindeer).

I bought her set of three vintage pieces a couple of years ago, that are done in the same finish, one was kids decorating a tree, kids sledding, and kids building a snowman. I really like that vintage looking style, and the quality of all my pieces are really, really nice. I wish Valerie would bring more things in this style and design.

Mousie - I know what set you are talking about! I bought them on Ebay this last winter and love them! I love any of those vintage inspired pieces!

Kell - you have me mixed up with someone else, as I havn't posted here yet. Smiley Happy

I'm so sorry Mousie and MIO ! I meant to type MIO - I dont know why but I always confuse you both!!

Hi kel, I have the Angels and the Santa & Reindeer.  I always find a place to use them.  I first got the santa several years ago when Valerie first brought them and I use every year.

Lucy - I have those angels too! HOwever, this last winter when i was taking them down, sadly (because i was klutzy!) one fell to the floor and the wing on it shattered - i was sooo upset! first thing i did was run to the computer to see if she had any left, but ofcourse not! fortunately, I was able to somewhat salvage the wing and put it together so when it is displayed on myself, you cannot see it. I am thinking these are not coming back anymore.

Aw, that's so frustrating when that happens.  With the texture of them the repair probably isn't that noticeable.  Speaking of klutzy, a couple of years ago I was putting batteries in one of the MG trees and stuck my hand right through the base of the tree.  The glass is very thin so just slivers and no  repair.  I have to turn it to the wall as it has a missing gap of glass.
